Why would you want to chance getting a summons. Is it really worth it.....or are you a born scoflaw? :whistles:

well cops in my area don't mind people with front tints anymore, cuz everyone has it. they'll only fine u after they catch you speeding. besides, after you feel the scorching heat here, you'd be happy there's tint even on

the front windows. my dad's odyssey has light tint, and it helps so much. ;)

It really is worth it. The privacy (not that I'm doing anything secretive, I just don't like people looking at me!), lowered interior temps, amongst the other benefits of keeping sun out of the car are so valuable. Scofflaw....can't help but think of the Seinfeld episode where Newman has all of those parking tickets! LOL

Den, here's my LS 10% all around (it's an overcast day, so it looks darker than it really is):

Law enforcement never bothered me unless their was a check point or something. On a sunny day, it lightens up greatly:

Image022_2.sized.jpg

I recently had my front two windows put at 40% which is legal in LA, and I don't really care for it. I can't seem to find any pictures of the 40% at the moment, but I'll post some later. I think about changing it back all the time!

oh wow. thanx for the pix. that really doesn't seem too dark. i guess sometimes the different angles make it look like it's dark. i think i'll go with 35% just so that it won't look too dark. besides, calling different tint places here in town, a lot of them have a limit of 35% as the darkest for front windows. i know that they're not liable for putting illegal tint, but i wonder why they wouldn't install anything darker than 35%?

I just got my 06 Forester XT tinted with 22% Solar Gard HP-Charcoal series tint (it's a 'medium shade')......I will post pics soon & the car looks just awesome & the job itself was fantastic. I got a heck of a deal as well for those in & around the Toronto area if they are interested in getting their vehicle tinted.....I'm happy to steer you in the right direction. B)

I find the 35% shade too light as over time no matter what brand of tint one uses it will fade........were talking about the sun here after all. ;)

probably because you have fewer windows on the Escort, 20% front really looks dark. If only front tint was totally LEGAL, i'd put a 20% on the front.

here's a couple pix of my CR-V in the Philippines, (they're not good picture angles) but I think you can still see thru the tint.

anyone guess the percent on this one??? lol :) :D

You have any better pictures? Like one that wasn't taken from the roof of your house?!?!

I'd guess 40%; then again, it is so hard to tell from a picture!

Ideally, the best way to take a picture to show the % of tint is to open the window about halfway and shoot the picture from inside the car, showing the outside. ;)

Several different & closer angles on a sunny day help as well. B) I find the 5% (limo) extremely dark at night personally.

Oh yeah......as you get older your 'night vision' is less, so tinting can have a very negative effect on your ability to see things in the dark!!

I disagree. I'm a step or two away from being legally blind (I have presbyopia, bad myopia, and astigmatisms in both eyes.), but I can see just fine with tint--in fact, I prefer it. I had absolutely no problems at night with my former 10% and current 40% tint on the front windows. I'd really like to get the windshield done now to cut down on the bright lights from head on traffic, plus it'd look cool too! B) I know everyone's vision is different though! My. $.02.

can't really do that cuz i'm in Cali and this car's in the Philippines. It's got 5% 3M MAgic Black tint. It's really hard to see out of the car at night.

Not to rain on the parade here, but Dens, you realize that if you tint your windows with something that is illegal, and you get into a wreck that is deemed your fault, your insurance company will have grounds to deny the liability claim which would force you to pay out of pocket for any damages, bodily harm or lawsuits from the other person your car hit. Not that they would do this, but the percentage is in the majority. Insurance companies try to find any possible way out of having to cut that check. And if they find that the owner of the vehicle they insure has altered the "visablity" aspect of the vehicle in an illegal manner...well, you see where I'm going with this.

If I were the insurance agent that handled your case, and realized this bit of information, you can bet I would probably have to use it against your claim..

Ok, back into my hole I go...

AMF-

I agree with you on how the tinted windows can make it more difficult to see at night, but I also have to say that the tint can help cut down on the glare in the rear view mirrors. Although backing up with tinted windows becomes more difficult as you are not able to see out of the sides windows as well at night. My sister was involved in a pretty bad car accident and lost some partial vision out of one eye. Her doctor gave her a prescription to get the windows tinted darker than states legal tint because the tint cuts down on the glare. But I think that you are correct when you say that tint will make it more difficult to see out the window at night...

NC I am sure that a claims adjuster is not going to deny a claim based on your window tint...hell I know quite a few people that have had accidents without their glasses on...got a ticket for it too... and the insurance company would not think about denying that claim...now there are some companies that will try to deny anything so nothing surprises me and I am not in total disagreement with you but...it is like saying if you are speeding and have a accident the insurance company can deny the claim because you broke the speed limit...it just does not happen...the main thing that a insurance company will deny a claim for is misrepresentation of material facts!!! Undisclosed drivers!!! <_<

I don't need to ready anything since I know how my eyes react. There was nothing objectively offensive in my post. Perhaps you should reread what I wrote, ideally the last or two stentence where I said, "I know everyone's vision is different though! My $.02." Ya know, $.02 part meaing it's *my* opinion. I'm sorry for giving a counterpoint, but there are 2+ sides to any story. Perhaps you should dial in to your LOC control panel and ignore my posts as not to insult your intelligence in the future. ;)

Please read this and then re-read my original post: http://www.visualexpert.com/Resources/olderdrivers.html

I was NOT talking about glare....I was simply talking about loss of night vision! ;)

geez. i didn't mean for this to turn into a little arguement. nc211 , well putting tint won't reduce visibility. what about those little sun shields that clip on to the window and aren't illegal? i think those can cause poor visibility than tinted windows. if you live in an area where 100s is a normal temp on a typical summer day, you'd say it's worth it to tint the windows. ;)

No sweat amigo, you have a valid point as well. Just passing along a few tidbits that I've seen happen to others before. MANY moons ago, I use to be a movie crew dude down in Wilmington, NC. Had a lincoln for one of the actors, had limo tint put on for privacy by the transpo dept. The actor's driver hit someone outside of the studio one night, and Universal's insurance company refused to honor the claim from the other person's damage, since the tint was so dark and illegal by NC's standards. The production company for the movie itself had to shell out close to $15 grand to fix the guys POS ride and make him sign the waiver.... Since then, special permits are "or were back when I was around" were always aquired for such tint before the keys were handed over for use.

I know, and I'm saying I can see just fine at night with very dark windows at all hours of the night with very, very poor vision and I'm no where near being a senior. ;) The point of my disagreement is that you don't have to be 80 years old to have poor vision. My mother is more than twice my age, and she can see perfectly, day or night, w/o glasses. I didn't see any mention of how eyeglasses or contacts affect their reports (maybe I missed it?). <_<

Argument is such an ugly word with aweful connotations, let's say heated debate. LOL
