My 95 LS400 front passenger wheel well is being splattered with oil on the inside. I haven't had a chance to see where from it is coming: I noticed this at a rest stop during my weekend trip. I checked brake fluid reservoir and the level is OK. Any body ever experienced this kind of leaks. I appreciate if memebrs share their comments.

sound like you cv joint boot has ripped and let the grease splatter all out

if it is fresh tehn get a new boot now and save the extra money buying a whole axle before it gets worn quickly

from dirt and rain

Thanks for the advice. Any idea how much the cost is... parts & labor. Is it something my local mechanic can do or do I need to take it to the dealer.

there are no CV joint in front wheels of the LS 400:)

as to the rear ones, both of them (right and left ) are around 500$ each

there are no boots in front because you havea rear wheel drive car, so check all the brake lines etc...

LMAO

i am an idiot

i didn't even notice what forum or the start of the post

saying the year and model

oh well

try and use a paper towel to see the colour of the fluid

it might be the rack

which should use tranny fluid (red)

or you could have run over something

it might not be as rad as u imagine if you didnt change it for a long time, just put it on ur finger and try to rub it in ur skin with another finger, this transmission fluid feels kinda different then the regular fluid :D

I am taking it to a mechanic today and will come back with some news. Thanks for the advice folks.

I got it checked by a mechanic: he says the 'rack' is damaged and the steering fluid is leaking.

Posted

there are a lot of parts over there, which one gives you a leak?

Posted

The guy said 'rack' needs to be replaced: 'the passenger side is all wet' is what he said.

Posted

new rack is gonna cost you around 230-250 but there is no fluid inside the rack, i think your steering gear is leaking

and this steering gear costs around 1200$

but! there is a steering gear seal kit provided by lexus and it costs only around 120$

Thanks VMF. I will talk to the mechanic and post the news.
