themntneer
Sounds good....now all I need to do is find someone in Florida who is willing to try this on my car. Also, am I correct in assuming this may void the warranty for the navigation system, if not the lexus? Yes, it does void the warranty. As far as we could find, the entire warranty. That's one reason we haven't attempted this modification. My husband ordered all the specs he needed to do this mod, awhile back and after some research, we decided to wait.
GS300-TJG
Just completed the DVD bypass on my 06 GS300 per the instructions provided in this blog. It took me about 1 hour to complete. I was surprised at just how easy everything came off. The instructions were perfect but I would advise anybody doing this bypass to make sure you have a crimp-kit and at least 8 inches of 16 gauge wire. I had to cut my cell phone charger to use the wire. Other then that, the job went flawlessly. Thanks
Lon_Encinitas_Ca
Does anyone know if these mod for DVD in motuion or Tel in motion will work on a LS-460? Also, does anyone know if there is a shop in the San Diego area that will perform mods on a Lexus, like the ones described in this thread? Thanks, this forum is vey helpful. Thanks, this forum is vey helpful. If anyone is interested, I contacted Prestigious and arranged to buy their kit and they had an installer in Fullerton CA who installed the kit in my LS=460L yesterday. The kit cost $322 and the install was $100. It works perfect. There is a small module installed on the dash that has two buttons. One is for Nav overide and the second is for DVD overide. Both light up when on (in the overided position). while driving home yesterday, we wathched a DVD and had no difficulty entering an address in the Nav system. While I did not use the phone to dial out, everything lights up on the phone menu when the overide switch is ON. I realize this is kind of a pricey solution, but for me it is well worth it. It looks to me like there are no wires to cut and the switches are a nice feature. There is a link in this thread to contact Prestigious. SerranoSin
Has anyone tried to do this on a 2007 GS350? Also, where do you insert the DVD's to play on the nav system? I don't think my model comes with a DVD reader does it?

Btexprs1
I'm interested in this feature also. How can I get instructions on what to do? Although I dont recommend watching dvds while driving, its definately nice to have if you have kids or even to entertain your friends, girlfriend, wife, etc...Its an easy fix that you can do yourself (I did it on my car in about 2 hours and that was going slow to ensure that I didn't F anything up!) The guy that figured it out is located in Southern Cali and has a shop out there, so those of you that live out there and dont want to do it yourselves, he charges $150. I'm at work right now, so I will post up the directions and the guys shop address/phone later when I get home. I just wanted to see how many people out there with the 2006 GS would be interested in doing this?? BTW: This procedure also bypasses the bluetooth lock, so you will be able to dial out from the screen while the car is in motion also. LexnTex
Is there a place in Dallas that can do this for me? I am afraid of pulling or breaking something. cycleguy
If you have ML, your car can play DVD.To get the DVD hack, 3 wire cuts and 2 connections are necessary, and if you install a switch, you can also do the navi override. If you don't have ML, your car can't play DVD. However, the bypass hack will give you the ability to dial out from BT while in-motion and browse MP3 folders. You only need to cute 2 wires and make one connection. This applies to both 06 and 07; however, one of the wires is different between the 2 years. Hi, Can you PLEASE tell me where to get the instructions on how to perform this bypass? thanks

Problem solved on 2008 GS350 with Navigation and Mark Levinson: I purchased and had installed a USA-SPEC PA20-TOY iPod interface for my 2008 GS 350 with Navigation and Mark Levinson. Worked fine until the car started moving and then most of the controls "grayed" out as expected. Followed the advice of an earlier forum member and contacted Steve at Auto Specialists now located at 8507 Garden Grove Boulevard, Garden Grove, California 92844 (714-534-9440); $150.00 and an hour later everything worked perfectly. Steve is extremely courteous and the modification was performed with great care. There is a small toggle switch which I only need to engage when I choose to enter an address into the navigation system while driving (causing the map to jump a bit). Otherwise, I choose the other position, the GPS resets, and everything works as if the care was stopped, in park with the emergency brake on, including watching DVDs, the telephone keypad, the controls on the USA-SPEC, etc. If you need specific technical information please contact Steve ... I can report the override is working perfectly and something I would never attempt myself.
msurdin
Should also mention a google search revealed a company named Prestigious Society in Valencia, California that advertises harnesses for various Lexus vehicles around $300.00 The "lockpick" harness is apparently not yet available for the GS. ingoodtime
While I have bluetooth and a touchscreen, I don't have the Nav system. To bad for me! Fortunately, my cell phone has GPS albeit on a small screen.
HomieG
While I have bluetooth and a touchscreen, I don't have the Nav system. To bad for me! Fortunately, my cell phone has GPS albeit on a small screen. I wouldn't sweat not having the NAV in the '06 GS. While it's nice to have a built-in NAV, this one stinks. Besides the lousy screen resolution, it's not particularly accurate in terms of taking the shortest route. I guess all-in-all it may be better than nothing, but in most cases where I really want to rely on a GPS, I take my Garmin and don't bother with the Lexus NAV in my GS. evlushn
You will need a small flat head screw driver, a phillip head screw driver, a 10mm socket and a towel to protect the navigation unit. First, remove the plastic trim underneath the nav( just right above the ashtray) by pry it out with a small flat head screw driver. Hint: Tape the screw driver with Scotch tape to protect the finish of the trim. Second, put the shifter into "D" position. DO NOT START THE CAR. Just press the start buttom twice( foot of brake pedal at this time) and put the shifter to " D" or you can remove the shift lock tab and press the buttom, so you can move the shifter to " D" Unscrew the shifter and pry up on the center console. Third, remove the phillip head screw on each side of the side cover and the pry out. Gently remove both covers. After that you will see 4 10mm bolts( 2 on each side). Remove those bolts from the nav screen bracket and remove the nav unit. If you look under the nav unit you will find a piece of metal bracket on each side to grab onto and pull it out. Do not pry on the side of the Nav unit or try to remove the AC vent. One more. Oh, the AC vent is part of the dash. If you attemt ot remove it... you will have yourself a new dash. ***************ACTUAL WIRE CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS There are three white plugs going into the monitor. We will not touch the middle one. On the far left, closest to driver's side, is 26-pin plug K46. On the far right, closest to passenger side, is 32-pin plug h1. On K46, pin # 14 is purple. It is the VSS wire coming in from the BCM to the monitor. Leave a couple of inches on the plug and cut it. On K46, pin # 23 is yellow. It is the Parking Brake wire that tells the monitor if the parking brake is engaged. Leave a couple of inches on the plug and cut it. On h1, pin # 13 is pink. It is the VSS wire that leads out to the navigation unit. Leave a couple of inches on the plug and cut it. The monitor side of the purple wire will be left disconnected. Tape it up or preferably crimp it w/a 3M cap. The wireloom side of the yellow wire will be left disconnected. Tape it up or preferably crimp it w/a 3M cap. The monitor side of the pink wire will be left disconnected. Tape it up or preferably crimp it w/a 3M cap. Use a ring terminal and an 18 awg wire to connect the monitor side of the yellow wire to chassis ground. There's plenty of grounding locations available along the side, where the monitor mounts. Screw or bolt it in securely w/o interfering w/mounting area. Use butt connectors or tape and solder an 18 awg wire to connect the wireloom side of the purple wire to the wireloom side of the pink wire. You are effectively re-routing the VSS signal directly into the navigation. Reinstall the monitor and you are finished Top down view of back of nav closet to driver side closet to passenger side BTW: I did not come up with this mod. I just happened to find it on another Lexus forum. So do it at your own risk! I did it on mine and everything is fine. will this work on a 2010 gs
hddndragn
Go to Prestigious Society.com and get a bypass module. I installed one myself and no cutting is required, very detailed instructions come with it.
wallsdc
It took me 1 1/2...but I followed your instructions to the T and so far..it is working like a charm!!! You just saved me about 700 for the video input installation. Got a little confused on the purple wire because their are 2 of them on K46...but after cutting the wrong one, then reconnecting it and cutting the correct one...I'm able to watch DVD, dial my bluetooth while driving...and put in addresses for navigation! Thank you so much bro...you saved m a fortune!
