zuvdog Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Wife has a 1999 rx 300. Recently the timing belt came off. It didn't break but somehow came off. We had it replaced and 10 miles later it was shredded mess. the mechanic is now saying that the problem with the belt is that it's not lining up and rubbing on the back shield causing it to shred. He also says the hydrualic tensioner is bad. Has anyone had any odd problems with their timing belts?
lenore Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 might have better luck in the rx forum ← The suspect would be the idler tensioner or the water pump itself since it too is driven by the timing belt. Maybe the bearing failed and is allowing wobble on the drive roller, causing the belt to walk. At this point the Water pump, tensioner, and cam shaft pulleys are are suspect until you determine which one or ones are bad. By the way did Lexus do this work?
