I'm interested in doing the same except I want to keep the original look. Can't say that I was feeling the black finish. The burlwood finish is more classy, in mho. I ended up taking out the glove box then the Airbag module, to unscrew the wood trim. Easier to buff without hurting the leather around the trim!!! The polish I used was Turtlewax Polishing Compound, Scratch Remover paste. The white paste type, with a variable speed Elec. Drill and a sheep wool bonnet. Total time about (2) hours of tedious stuff. Now I don't have that eye sore I use to see every day I got in my car,, I will try to figure out how to upload pic's to show you how mine turned out!! I'm concerned about the airbag part of the equation the most, but it would be nice to have a wlakthrough. I REALLY want to refurb the wood trim all the way around, but I alos want to fix the two cracks as well. From what I've read, I have to replace the unit as one, with a uncracked one.
