95 Es300 Higher Shift On 1st & No 2nd Gear?

Like the title says..95 ES300 with 150k..runs & drives great seems to shift into all other gears fine..from what I can tell it doesnt seem to have a 2nd gear..It revs to @ 4k depending on throttle pressure then shift pretty smoothly to another gear..at first just seemed to shift high out of first & then I pulled it back in second manually after shifting & it just revs then goes to first..been told the solenoid for 1-2 shift also does 3-4 & it couldnt be a solenoid..also is a lil slow going into gear when first engaged..I have changed the throttle pressure (next to throttle body) with lil or no difference..just looking to see if maybe it could be a fix or will it be a rebuild..if no luck I guess ill just drive till it breaks as it seems to do just fine as is..would like it right but dont want to do a rebuild for what the car is actually worth & all..thanks for any info you can give me

I can't make heads or tails of most of that post. It's too confusing.

How do you know you don't have access to second?

From a dead stop floor the pedal. What RPM does the engine shift out of first gear (5000-6100rpm), and what does the RPM drop to?

Here is the shifting pattern of the solenoids:

Sorry I was just trying to explain as good as possible...It shifts out normally pretty high(higher than normal) @4k rpms...after the first shift I can manually pull it in second & it drop shifts like its coming from 3rd..then kinda neutrals..so I assume its going from 1st-3rd when it shifts..havent floored it to see where it shifts because I knew it shifted too high & didnt want to blow the engine waiting for it to maybe shift..hope this is explained a lil better

Well you dont have to buy it..I floored it from a start & it hit about 6500-6750 & hit the rev limiter for at least 10-15 seconds & never shifted..had to let off for it to shift..during normal driving it shifts @4k & drops to 2250rpm's Thanks fo rhte chart but Im still a lil confused on it..in your opinion can one of my solenoids be bad & cause this condition & the skipping second gear? Whats my next step to go?

Thanks,Brian

The engine redline is 6850rpm, the cut-off is 7000rpm +/-100rpm.

If you blow it up I'll buy it.

Ok..well why does after it supposedly shift to second(which I thought was third) when you manually downshift to 2nd it goes to a neutral typw rev..also..it doesnt shift enough times to be going into 2nd I dont think..it seem to shift to third from first & then lockup converter & shift one more time which I assume is 4th..it runs about 2250 at 55 I think..But your mph chart does look to be right on..who knows..I did check the cable & its in the middle & I even adjusted it more tighter with lil or no difference..wish you were close to ride in it..so hard to describe it all on here..but thnaks for reading & helping out

1st 2.810 - 29mph @ 4500rpm

2nd 1.549 - 30mph @ 2250rpm

3rd 1 - 47mph @ 2250rpm

O/D .735 - 63mph @ 2250rpm

No you're fine. That's second gear.

Check the transmission kick-down cable.. It may be a long way out of adjustment. It should be in the middle of the range.

Min thing is the high shift of about 4k & dropping to 2250..(maybe not going into 2nd) seems to be a big drop to me from the lexus Ive driven before..

If you can change gears but not when floored i would say you have a valve clogged in you valve body, get it removed and cleaned .

Then get an inline filter.

No different after changing setting on cable..still high shift out of first..Also from a stop I put it in second manually & took off & it never ever shifted even driving it easy..it kinda neutraled when it was time to shift..so Im pretty sure that 2nd is not engageing..any more ideas?

Just check the cable.  ;)

4000rpm into 2250rpm is fairly normal.

About everyone uses a 2.75-3 first gear into a 1.75-1.65 second gear.

:cries: I wish my car was at 2250 RPM at 55 MPH.

I'm more like 3100 +/- 50 at 70 MPH...LOL.

Yours too huh? my 250 did the same exact thing

i think at 75 MPH i was spinning along at 3250 or so! those ES250's needed a 5 speed auto.
