sgriffith Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I have a 2002 LX470 and when I am in park & the engine is idling, the oil level gauge will drop to almost nothing. Then, if I rev the engine a little, the gauge will come back up. Does this happen to everyone? Yes, the oil level is just fine in the vehicle.....that was the first thing I checked. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
mscott Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Mine idles at about 1/2 gauge. Rev = increased oil pressure = higher guage reading. Idling at next to nothing? I dunno, could just be the sensor, but I am not a professed technical genius of this truck. My $.02
Rookie Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Of course I've got an LX-450, but mine runs a little below half way under idleing conditions, and a little above 3/4 under load. I'd check your owners manual for the proper operating range for the guage while idle and accelerating, but dropping to the bottom line seems low. Rookie
SKperformance Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I would check the sensor and make sure the engine is not coated in sludge blocking proper readings.
Leroy Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 The gauge is oil pressure and oil pressure changes depending on the RPM's. Check oil level with your dipstick. The behavior seems normal, you might ask Lexus to confirm.
SKperformance Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 It is dependent on rpms to increase pressure but if there is a blockage it will drop lower than normal and only be partially open when at higher rpm's. As already mentioned the oil level is fine.
Glockenspiel Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 That is the normal activity for the oil pressure gauge on Toyota motors. No worries.
