'06 Gs430 And Passport 8500.

Hey guys, just picked up my '06 GS430 on Friday.  I was wondering if anyone has direct wired a radar detector yet?  If so, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I was going to but I ended up using the battery powered Escort Solo S2. It works great and the battery last about 2 months. I have a Passport 8500 hardwired on my Porsche and I can't honestly detect any difference between that and the battery powered one.

Just had my V1 hardwired into my '06 GS300. Ran the wire down the black rubber moudling onn drivers side and added a new fuse that was accessory powered to the fuse block the drivers footwell.

I did the same thing, but continuted running it underneath the leather panel on the right of the driver and into the center console and used that dc outlet.

I did it myself and it was free....

Thanks guys.

blue06gs, you can order the longer direct wire kit from EscortRadar.com for like ten or eleven bucks. I think you can even get one with the remote mute button too.

I ran mine down the passenger side A-pillar, behind the side access panel for the dash, hooked it to a switched line on the fuse panel and used a screw on the firewall for a ground.

I don't use my Escort S2 often, but it's convenient whenever I need it. Just pop to the windshield and set. Don't know how effective this unit is because I don't have prior experience with radar detectors.

In my opinion, the Valentine 1 is much better than any Escort, including the Passport 8500 series. The V1 has never done me injustice a single time in the last two years. A little pricey? Yes, but definately does the job better than anyone else in the market.

Hey bud, what do ya mean by "hardwiring." I got a V1 too, but all I do is mount it on the windshield.

He means he wired the V1 power up directly to a "internal" power source from the car instead of having to plug into an external power source like the cig lighter. :)

Got the passport 8500 for Christmas! It has the optional hardwire kit, but I lose the "mute" button which is useful when driving through the mall parking lot and the line of grocery stores. Anyone gone the hardwire mount have recommendations of where they put it ... up by rearview mirror, low left dash, etc.

Thanks!

Jason
