My friend drives a 2001 GS300 that is almost due for its 60,000 mile service and he was wondering if he should just take it to Lexus to get it done or to go to the Toyota dealership since their hourly labor rates are cheaper than Lexus.

Anyone have any recomendations?

I don't recommend Lexus for any service...even though they tell you they are specialists or what not. Ripoff...Santa Monica Lexus charges $105 for an oil change!! No joke!!

I personally wouldn't waste money on the 60k service or any big service that Lexus recommends...Lexus cars are meant to last...I do services on an as needed basis - I gotta local mechanic which I trust and know won't screw with me...gotta build a relationship with a local place - my opinion anyways.

Could someone verify... to certify a pre-owned lexus, the car would have to attend lexus service center or lexus authorized station for all its car services/repairs.

Also, would servicing Lexus at Toyota's service center voids new car's warranty?

No. It is a federal offense for a carmaker to discriminate against someone who has their service done elsewhere than at the dealer.

Correct, & the same goes for an independent repair shop (at least in Ontario) that is licenced & all correct parts & fluds are used. Keep all records, I do the same to mine & save big $$$. B)

Yep, I have a folder for each of my cars that holds records for every part, service, body repair, ding repair, etc. It makes a huge impression on a buyer when they thumb through that, they have all the history and all the warranties on the car and the work thats been done to it. Powerful thing and it WILL save you money.

Thanks for the great tips! I am learning as I go. I have never seen a Lexus visiting Toyota garage here or anywhere else. I guess most ppl don't even know about that. Some of my colleagues drive different models of Lexus, I guess they will be happy to know this.
