lexus400 Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 I've got a blow outer boot on both sides. Does anyone have a procedure for replacing the axle shafts ? I've done these before but not on a Toyota/Lexus. thanks, Bob
lexus400 Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 SKperformance - do you have a procedure that you wrote up for replacing an axle ? I've searched for about 1/2 an hour by topic and under your ID but can't find anything. thanks, Bob
SKperformance Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Actuall i have written one a couple of times for people. try searching under axle boot in the ES section
lexus400 Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 Man, I've searched every possible way but can't find any procedure under your name. Do you have it locally and can post it again ? I think a couple of people are looking for it. I'll be happy to take that and add some pics and get it over to the maintenance section. Bob
SKperformance Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 I can't find it( well i got lazy after 2 minutes) It is pretty simple. If you are just replacing a boot then get the toyota bootkit. If replacing an axle it is less work but more money since you do not have to take the axle apart. Remove wheel tie rod sway bar end links hub main bearing bolt undo the bolt facing up which hold the axle to the tranny then just pull out. I am going from what i remember when i did mine a coupl of years ago but it was straight forward.
Mom & Dad Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I just did the passenger side. I didn't remove the sway bar. I did unbolt the strut from the wheel assembly to make access easier. I broke two ratchets on the bottom control arm bolts, they were really stuck. I was done in 2 hours flat.
