I always wonder if someone bought Microsoft stock instead of spending on LS 400 in 1991 what would it be worth? I didnt buy the 91 then (its used) but I have the orig sticker and its shocking because it had every option and came in around $60k. The costs for the Nakamichi and Air Susp blow your mind.

Anybody know how much that 60K in 1991 in Microssoft is worth in Microsoft today?

I know that 10k used to buy the IPO of the stock would have been about 1.4 million at the peak in 2000.....not bad for a twelve year investment.

I remember my brother-in-law, who is a very highly skilled mainframe systems analyst, telling about this guy Gates, in 1987. He predicted Gates would have a lock on software.....I bought nothing, and neither did he, which is the worst "woulda-coulda-shoulda" I have ever committed.

Looks like the vote is getting a bit messed up unless someone really did purchase a brand new 90 - 96 LS for under $20K. The lowest dealer cost for a basic 90 LS with no options was right at $29,000.

My total sticker price when I bought my LS brand new in early 90 was about $36,500 (I paid far less than that) and the only options it had were a $900 sunroof, keyless entry, and floor mats. A completely loaded 90 LS with the options I got plus leather, Nakamichi, air suspension, traction control, chrome wheels and Lexus phone could be had for way less than $50,000.

I remember my dad wanted an LS400 in 1990, I was young but I think it was $38k or so. I remember he couldn't afford it and got a Lincoln Continental instead. He looked at them again in 93 but got another Lincoln because of the same reason, again in 95 but got a Cadillac for the same reason, and finally took the plunge in 98 and got his first one. The sticker was 62k or so, and his 04 LS430 was $71k. He paid way less each time.

I still have one of the original 1990 LS400 brochures from when he looked at them way back when.

My 1990 LS400 had a window sticker price of around $37000, with around $2K in options. I think it totalled around $39000.

For a NEW price of a LS400- <$20K, should not have even been a choice.

Like 90LS400 said- $29K was the lowest dealer price even for a base 90'.

I have never heard of a LS300. Perhaps a typo? :unsure::lol:

-Moonroof: $1,000.00

-Floor mats: $110.00

-Trunk Mat: $63.00

-Destination $480.00

Total: $54,653.00

There were several $1,000 increases in the list price in the first year or two and then the new "luxury tax" kicked in and made the price really zoom upward. The original $35,000 base list price was seen as quite a bargain which is why more LS400's were sold in 1990 than any other year. U.S. automakers accused Lexus of "dumping" (selling below manufacturing cost) which also contriubuted to the rapid price increase.

Lexus jokes were a staple of Jay Leno on the tonight show in late 1989 - mostly about the melting high mounted brake light. A lot of people made fun of my LS when I first bought it - it was rather entertaining. I still have and just looked at the 1989 Automobile mag article that compared the LS to a BMW 535, Infinity Q45 and Mercedes 300E and which many thought was responsible for kickstarting Lexus sales. The article essentially said that BMW and Mercedes was doomed by the introduction of Lexus.
