HoeBag Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 i have a k&n stock replacement filter right now. which one would be better for performance? better for gas mileage? anything else i should consider if i keep the k&n?
SKperformance Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 yo say which one what is the other one besides the k&n ? the stock filter? the k&n is better for gas milage but i think no for performance a cold air intake is the only way to go but i am a hard line economizer i will do anything performance to my car as long as it save me gas
steviej Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 I have an '02 ES (1MZ-FE). The stock Denso filter and the K&N match on performance (ie acceleration, etc). Simply stated you won't get any performance enchancements from switching to the K&N filter in the oem stock air box. I cannot speak to changing to a different air delivery system such as a short pipe, cold pipe, ram, etc. MPG The big difference I found with switching to the K&N, I picked up 3 mpg on city/round town driving and close to 5 mpg on all out highway driving. $$$ savings on filter replacement I never have to buy another filter again. At approximately $12-30 depending on where you buy and how often you change....it will add up. try it, if you don't like it, switch back. The cost of a K&N by mail order was less than $40. The recharger kit is less than $10 and will last the life of the car. steviej
m2pc Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 I just bought an Amsoil Drp in filter. Cheaper than the k&n and re-usable. I'll let you guys know if there is any increase in MPG. I doubt any performance increase.
m2pc Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Well, been driving with the Amsoil free flow and notice no increase or decrease n MPG. This can be due to 1. Oil needs to be changed soon as opposed to prior numbers taken after a fresh oil change. 2. Summer time - I'm using the AC (this will bring down the MPG's) where the prior numbers I didn't crank it on.
NeiLtYmE Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 no , depending on the model... just snapping open the box and dropping it in....
