TTCUPS Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 im new to this forum,i have had my 94 sc400 for only ten days. im a car guy and feel i have a lot to offer this site. i just dont know this car very well at all. i have posted a few boring things on this site, but as i dont know this car i really could use the advice. but my last post seems like nobody would respond. i know someone knows about this,i just wish someone would help. i know as i learn this car more i will help the new guys out. so i will ask one last time and hope for the best. when i hit the gas i hear what sounds like a pinging noise,or maybe a valve clattering. a mechanic at lexus said a valve adjustment was not needed,he told me its very rare to need one,and very exspensive, about $900. i told me to buy b&g 44k and add it to a full tank of gas and it should go away. i only run 93 octane in it so i dont think its fuel. is this a normal sound for this engine? to me i still think its valve adjustment but lexus says no,any one have this noise? its got 189k highway miles on it. what could it be? thanks, ttcups
JDOwen2 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 When was last last tune-up done? I would suggest a top end cleaner like SeaFoam as well as a fuel system cleaner.
Matthew_McNally Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 hey TT - welcome to LOC sure someone will be able to help you out ;)

Don't dump it into your tank though, pour it into a vaccuum line. Really works well. You have to give it constant gas while you're pouring it in, or it'll die, but it works incredible. Just pick a bigger vaccuum source.
bean_8044 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 How about the turbo inlet? Thats a big vaccum when its on boost :D
SirSam Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Are you talking about the pinging sort of ticking noise that you hear in your engine when rev that gas? If so that seems to be normal, I have a friend with an SC400 also and it does the exact same thing.
