IronWorker Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 ***Edit*** Skip to post #5 for update Dealer says "intake meter" needs to be replaced. I'm assuming its the air intake meter. I've done a thread search and have checked on the sponsors links for this part. Does it go by another name? Thanks in advance.
steviej Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 maybe he is taking about the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor? steviej
CUMan Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 In the repair manual for my 93 LS 400, this part is called the "Volume Air Flow Meter." I don't have a repair manual for the ES; however, I would assume they would use the same terminology. It is obviously the same part as the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
SKperformance Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Why do you need to change your maf? They are pretty much indestrucable and sometimes need to be cleaned only,or their is a rip in the intake tube forma broken engine mount
IronWorker Posted September 28, 2004 Author Posted September 28, 2004 Why do you need to change your maf? They are pretty much indestrucable and sometimes need to be cleaned only,or their is a rip in the intake tube forma broken engine mount This is what the dealer said was causing the engine light to be activated.
IronWorker Posted November 2, 2004 Author Posted November 2, 2004 UPDATE: Took car back to dealer to verify the part - It is the MAF. They wanted $400 to replace. I have located a part for much less, but not sure if it is necessary. Should I just disassemble (using Haynes manual) give it a good cleaning and put back. I so, what to clean with?
SKperformance Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 clean it you have nothign to lose. It normally is the intake pipe not the maf causing a problem. Inspect it for rips.
IronWorker Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 Also, I was looking for the tutorial section to see if there was anything on it. Can someone point me to that section, I don't see it. Thanks
SKperformance Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Info on changeing the MAF ? It has 2 screws and is inbettween the arfilter box and the rubber intake pipe
IronWorker Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 Yes, I found it cleaned it, restarted car 3-4 times to try and reset warning light. Still on. I was looking for the tutorial section for general info and future reference, I have a haynes manual. Would anyone care to point me to the tutorial section. Thanks
SKperformance Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 on the opening page under lexus maintance it is there or scroll down to near the bottom of the bar below to the right that says lexus es250/es300/es330
kcpth Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Ironworker, since you cleaned it, i'm not sure if this would help... but don't forget to leave one of the terminal on your battery out to try to reset it. I usually leave it out for either 1 hr (i know you don't necessarily have to leave it that long) or i just leave it out for the whole night n go to bed... n wake up in the morning n put it back in. It should reset your computer. Which tutorial r u looking for?
