My GS400 was involved in a front accident. Now, it has many electronic problems. The shifter doesn't move into any gears and finally when i pull with a lot of force, it goes into drive but says M in the speedometer. It has many other problems. If anyone out there knows about GS400 electronics please PM me because i am looking for a mechanic. Thanks

If the handle doens;t release it can be a few issues.

I am not sure what M isfor on the dash as it usually says P,R,N,D,2,1

or did you mean N?

Do you brake lights come on?

You could have poped a light bulb fuse causing the sensor to not activate the park release , or the tranny is out of alignment on the mounts.

The M stands for manual. It is for tiptronic. Now, the car won't even start. I drove it about 10 miles and parked it. Now it won't start. There is definitely something wrong with the electronics. I am in New York City if a Lexus specialist wants to help me out. My mechanic is clueless about Lexus's. Thanks

for your triptronics, you might have a bad tranny sensor... and about the starter, what won't it do? kick over or even engage?

If the neurtal safety (PRNDL) switch is out of alignment (or damaged) not only will the car not know what gear you are in [wrong gear displayed] it will not start either. The transmission must be in either P or N for the starter to receive power.

The shift handle will not release when you press the brake if the PRNDL switch isn't telling the computer that the car is in Park. If your mechanic is clueless, look for another one. Hey, how about the Lexus garage? I hear they are handy with these cars  ! Alternatively, you may call a transmission shop to help check this out for you.
