Los Angeles Area Independent Service Needed

I'm in the same boat. I've been unable to locate a trustworthy shop in the area also. I've used a dealer so far, but I'm unimpressed with their service - and their prices.

Let me know if you find anything.

Am also looking for good indie mechanic in LA area. Came up with a shop recommended in Santa Monica area called German Independent (not positive, so check the website) around Sepulveda, I think it was, but they are not necessarily specialists in Lexi. They did say they could work on it though. I need someone closer to Beverly Hills. Currently using dealer and/or Sears, off and on for basic stuff.

For those of you who are freeway close to the South Bay area (south of LAX), I highly recommend Independent Repair on Artesia Blvd in Redondo Beach. I have been been using and recommending them to friends and coworkers for years, used them on 4 vehicles so far since '90 (a 87 Honda Prelude Si, my '93 Acura Legend Coupe, the wifes' '93 Lexus ES300 and now my '98 LS 400). They are fair, have a super clean shop, do NOT try to sell you something you don't need and are very courteous. The specialize in Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti. However, this is not a "we work on any dang thing" shop. Independent Repair's niche market is high end Japanese vehicles. And they have a TON of very happy customers. This is the kind of shop you develop over time a relationship with. They use only factory parts and the money I have SAVED not going to the dealer has allowed me to be PRO-active instead of RE-active in maintianing my vehicles. Because of the relationship I have built there with the Manager, I TRUST this shop. And I have a very effective BS meter. I will not take my cars anywhere else.

Anybody interested in any more info on this shop, PM me, but I believe I have pretty much said it all here.

Good suggestions all. Thanks. I found out today that my local Lexus dealer will let me order up discounted parts from wherever and they will install those parts for me. Hadn't a clue they would do this. Not sure if this is their shop policy only, or if any Lexus shop will do this. Of course they won't warranty the part if you get it from elsewhere, but if you are saving $400 on a part, who cares? My two cents. I think I'll stick with Lexus mechanics at my dealer. V. honest and incredibly efficient and decent folks all.

I just purchased a 1995 LS400 and need a good independent dealer/mechanic in the Los Angeles or Southern California area. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

I found a shop in Monrovia (if you want to travel that far) that is very good -- Luxury Motor Works on Chestnut Avenue in Monrovia. Superclean shop, ASE cert mechanics, all with years and years of experience on Lexus. V. reasonable prices compared to dealer, and they also beat out several other indie shops I got quotes from. Courteous, etc.

I have heard Carson Toyota is great for Lexus parts.

Anybody have a lead on a Hollywood or West Side shop? Independent Repair is not that far from me though...

Although I have yet to take my Lexus here, (knock on wood), when I can't handle the repair, I'll take it here.

Haines Auto

I have only had the car for about 2.5 years and the most serious repair were motor mounts that I was able to do myself.

I have used him since the 70's for a procession of Japanese cars. These include 1972 Mazda RX2, 1986 Toy Camry, 1986 Mazda 626 and 1993 Villager.

Always fair, honest and competent and you can't beat the prices.

If you are willing to travel to Carson, I'd recommend TM Engineering. That's where I get most of my work done.

What's Going on with TM? I've been trying to call for the past few days with no success! I've been trying to check on my order from them.
