i've read other posts about the center (b pillar) delaminating? any ideas on how this happened and possibly slow the process or even fixing it somehow all together?

I recently had the same problem. Luckily it was repaired under warranty. It's actually only a $60 part and a 10 minute fix (so I've been told). Pop the old one out and the new one in. I'd have a pro do it... but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars.

Apparently this happens quite frequently, as my dealership had several in stock.

byohzrd is right (actually I think it was me who mentioned the replacement cost of the part). Mine is peeling pretty much halfway down the length on the driver side in my '01 ES, and I still have the spare B-pillar part I bought from Lexus parts about a month and a half ago. When I grow weary of the look, I'll change it :)

Another option is to go to a good body shop and have them repaint and clearcoat the existing piece, but the final cost may most likely be more than the cost of the replacement part.

Thats very common on all cars. The best way to keep them nice? Wax them often, more often than the car. I have a 97 Explorer and they always have faded peeling B pillars and d pillars, I waxed mine once every couple months since it was new and mine still look fine.

No, as the problem is UV induced and the paint protection films don't have any UV protection. The paint would just delaminate underneath the film. Just wax them every couple months.
