I purchased 1993 Lexus LS400, just under 87000 miles. I Called to Lexus for service information. I was told that I have 90,000 miles service due sooner or later. But, never explained about what service will be performed from factory.

Anyone has idea about it? also Estimate price will be approx $1200-1700. Thanks.

timing belt & water pump replacement should be part of the 90K service for 1st Gen LS400. it's $1200 job right there!

"Thanks for Quick response.

I just wonder changing timimg belt and water pump for $1200 is

reasonable cost from factory dealer? or I should check with local service shop

for lower cost."

It would be a better idea for you to check out other Toyota Specialists around town. I've come across specialists charging $600-800 for this service. I would definitely buy genuine Toyota/Lexus parts though.

Hi...

I saw somewhere on the net, think it was on the lextreme site  a graph of the output on a LS 400....with and without a K+N filter and the engine ran more power with the stock Lexus airbox :o

Many be someone else can back me up on this?

Good luck with your service....i was told by a Lexus mechanic to only use a Lexus timing belt as other brands have been know to be not as good quality ;)

Check with a Lexus dealer to find out what maintainance has already been done on your car. Lexus dealers are very good at convincing naive owners that the 90k service should be done at 60K.

K&N filters are not just useless as performance improvers they can cause real damage to your engine and/or emission control systems. Some of the oil in the K&N filter will wick off and then become attached to the downstream MAFS, mass airflow sensor. That will result in false air intake volume/flow indications to the engine ECU and you will end up driving with the wrong fuel mixture.

60,000 miles service from Lexus was done two years ago. Checked and inspected Belts only. Some folks said K&N Air filter Superior to stock. Anyone ACTUALLY had used or being used with K&N Air filter so far? Thanks.

Definitely check out other Lexus specialists and I guarantee you won't pay nearly as much as the dealership. I think that they include the price of the free cappucino's in the labor cost at the dealership!!! I called my mechanic (only works on Lexus and Toyota's and uses genuine parts) and he said the 90k service is $800. Talk to the owner of the shop first and see what kind of "feel" you get for him.

Hi

Anyone heard ASCO,One of Japanese company, Water Pump for LS400?

I'm gonna buy this part just because almost more than 50% off price comparing with Lexus/Toyota part.

Any Feedback or Opinion?

ThankYou.

Irontoad has the OEM Lexus water pump for under $100, $88 for the pump and ~$10 shipping. Park Place Lexus has the tensioner, belt, and pulleys for about $250. Here are the links:

"Irontoad"(alias for Thompson Lexus in PA): http://www.irontoad.com

Park Place Lexus in Plano, TX: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...m?siteid=213808

I have dealt with both dealerships, and both were excellent experiences. Most of their prices are +/- $2 of each other, but some things will be way off like the water pump $88 @irontoad v. $155 at PP Lexus. That sounds like a really good tune up! ;)
