skeemer Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 I plan on removing and cleaning my air intake arm and throttle body, and perhaps some other easy to access parts of my engine (92 ES) this weekend and I had a few questions. What should I use to clean inside these parts? WD-40 or similar solvent and clean rag, or are paper towels fine? What things should I not use? Any other tips would be appreciated, as this is my first time cleaning an engine. BTW, I do have a Hayne's Repair manual just to be sure.
Lexusfreak Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 I think there is a special throttle body cleaner you can buy & I would use rag's as opposed to paper towels to be safe & perhaps an old toothbrush. B)
steviej Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 TB cleaner or Carb cleaner. Just make sure it says "safe for O2 sensors" on the side of the can. Don't use paper towels! :o you will leave paper bits. use an old clean t-shirt or new shop towel. steviej
SKperformance Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 use TB cleaner followed by brake clean to remove film wd 40 will cause dirt to stick and plug the parts you have just cleaned
lbinh Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 How do you go about detailing a 93 ES's engine bay? Any particular things you need to be concerned about spraying down your engine with water and engine cleaner?
