  1. I'm not sure...that is actually why i'm selling it because I have and aftermarket headunit. I have head that you could but i'm not sure where you would find an adapter to convert the lexus hookup to RCA or something. Steve
  2. I have Wet Okole seat covers on mine. They are waterproof and I swear they make the seat more comfortable. I think you can order them from the Wet Okole website. If you want to see pictures of them on my car I have some at www.cardomain.com/id/sharr51844. Steve
  3. Tony, I have been looking around it is seems like they are going for around $175-$200 on e-bay and they are $437.50 new from the dealership. How does $150 plus shipping sound? I would have UPS pack and ship the changer and it would be insured for $450. Steve
  4. I am selling my CD changer from my 1997 LX450. I have an after-market head unit and do not use the changer anymore. It is a 6 disk changer and the magazine is included. Everything is in perfect working order. Please make an offer if anyone is interested. sdh02@fsu.edu ~ Steve
  5. I have an '03 Landcruiser that I pull my corvette around with. Total, the trailer and car weight about 6700lbs. I talk to a couple of people they are extremely certified in the Landcruiser/LX470 and they said that these vehicles are over engineered and can handle more than they stated towing capacity. It pulls my trailer very well and is stable with the added weight. You do need to be careful with more weight because the trailer will started to tell the car where to go. That is were it really can get dangerous. I do think that if you have the weight on the trailer distributed well, you can pull 7000lbs but I would not do much over that. Just too much for the car. Hope this helps. Steve
  6. for 18' rims, you would use a 285/60/18. That is what I have on my car. I'm not sure how the width affects the numbers in the tire size but my rims are 18x11. Since they are so wide, i pick up a lot of ruts in the road. You car probably won't drive as nicely with larger width. Steve
  7. maxnharry...do you have any pictures of your car with the TVs and stuff in it? I was thinking about putting one in my car and would like to see how you did it. I also got rid of my factory seb to free up some space for my CB brain. I was thinking about getting rid of the six CD changer to get some more room since I use an aftermarket headunit to play my CDs. Let me know if you have any pictures. Thanks. Steve
  8. I have an 00' Tundra that ticks really loudly when the engine is under stress. They both have the same V-8. There are two different types of ticking these engines are known to do. Not sure what either of them are but I could find out. One of them is normal with these engines and isn't a problem and the other is bad to continue to run your engine. I would have you car looked at. Steve
  9. Viper by DEI makes an excellent unit that works with a security system. I'm sure you will be pleased. Steve
  10. I also get only about 210 miles to a tank. As far the the exhause note goes, it is a problem with the main muffler. I have seen in on many landcruiser/lx and had to deal with it myself. Aparently there are honey cones in the muffler and get out of shape and cause a wistle. The only way to get rid of it is a new muffler. After a while, it get worse and it worth it! Steve
  11. The LX is kinda hard to find replacement speakers for because the doors are so shallow. Not sure exactly what kinda set up you are looking for but here are a few ideas. In my LX, I have MB Quart mids and highs all around. They are extremely clear and LOUD. They are, however, a bright speaker that doesn't have much bass. It is best paired with a sub. Unless you get a bigger speaker like I did, you are not going to be much bass anyway. I have 6 1/2" mid drivers. JL also makes a great speaker that is not has bright and also has more bass. Infiniti speakers have a very smooth sound that a lot of people like but are not as clear because they have silk domes. I would really suggest going to a store like Hi-Fi Buys or Sound Advice and listening to different speakers. If you want a system that sounds full, I would suggest getting a JL W0 10" sub. It will make a HUGE difference from the stock sub in the center. If you would like pictures, go to www.cardomain.com/id/sharr51844 and cardomain.com/id/sharr5184. Hope this helps. Steve
  12. I put a rebuilt starter in my 1991 4Runner and the problem came right back. I eventually had to buy a new starter but the shop gave me a credit on the new one since it really should have worked. Steve
  13. I have had a similar problem with an old 4 Runner that I had. I would often times not start and if I let it be for a bit, I would start. No body could figure out what was the matter with it because it ALWAYS worked when I took it in. Turns the starter was bad and kept freezing up. Sounds like we have the same problem. Steve
  14. I have 70,000 miles on my LX450 and my axle is now starting to leak so i'm getting the axle repacked. I think it will cost about $350. Steve
  15. Ok, I have had a 1995 Landcruise, and 1996 Landcruiser, and 1997 LX450, and an '03 Landcriser so I'm pretty familiar with these cars. I would have to say everything in the post above in dead on. I'm having to repack my front axle very soon. Other than that, I have never had any problems with any other the vehicles. They do eat through break pads and to experience fading in long braking b/c the brakes get too hot. They do stop well in an emergency situation though. They are amazing off-road. They are extremely comfortable at high ways speeds. They are, however, not the quickest cars on the road so don't expect too much off the line. Other than that, they have enough power. I would not say repair costs are cheap but these cars are very very reliable so there will not be many repair costs. They are very safe cars also, I was t-boned by a BMW745i going 45mph and wasn't hurt at all. I actually drove the car to the shop after the wreck. Transmissions are well built and shift smoothly. The gas tank on these cars is about 22 gallons and I get about 270 miles on the highway and about 200 in the city. For a solid axle car, is rides nicely but still gives you a great feel for the road. They do not have A/C in the back so it takes a little while for the back to get cooled down but is not bad. There is a heater for the back seats. I would recommend getting the windows tinted to cut down on the heat coming in. It makes a big difference. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at SHarr5184@aol.com. Steve
  16. in GA it cost about $40 to fill up my lx450 and it lasts about 250miles if i'm lucky, how are you getting close to 300? In Florida, it costs about 45
  17. I have both of my thrid row seats from my '97 LX and don't need them. Neither of them have ever been sat in. Let me know if anyone would like to buy them. I have two from my '96 Landcruiser too...Email me at SHarr5184@AOL.com. Steve
  18. Wow, those are great pictures. Did the back bumper hit on the passanger side? What type of under-carriage protection do you have? Steve
  19. I have had the lockers on my Landcruiers and LX450 for a long time now and have done a lot of off-roading with them. I know with the LX, you have to be stopped and in N to first put the car in 4L to lock the center and then turn the knob on the left to lock either the front, back, or both. You are not supposed to go over 5 mph with them locked. Unless you are in a slippery surface, you cannon turn the car at all with these are locked. As far as the LX470 goes, my mom has a 2003 Landcruiser and I assume they are the same set up. If so, you are right, it is only a center locker but much of the same rules apply. Hope this helps. Steve
  20. Unless you are right infront of behind the car, it has to be less that 10 feet. I thought it was just my car, but maybe not. My new system is being installed Monday. Can't wait. Steve
  21. It should be listed on the inside of the driver's door. Steve
  22. I have a 97 LX450 and I also have problems with the alarm. Nothing like what you are having, but I still don't like the system. I'm not sure if you can adjust the sensitivity on the factory alarm. Before you get a new module, I would research a after market DEI alarm system. They are the larget automotive security system maker and known as the best. They will offer much more than your stock system. I'm having one installed in my LX at the end of next week that will even put the windows up and down. I'm paying $400 for the whole system installed. I have used the same system on my old 1996 Cruiser and loved it. Plus, you get 1/4 miles range with the remote vs. my 10 feet now. Let me know if you have any questions about it. Hope this helps. Steve
  23. I have been told by the lexus specalist that switching back and forth is not recommended but none of them can tell me why. I have also heard this from Acura. I think we need an oil specialist here. Anyhow, I have read that synthetic oil does not break down as fast, thus, you can go more than 3,000 miles with out changing. I run synthetic in my LX. It is about $100 every oil change and I was talking to my mechanic about the benefits of using synthetic and he said "although no one who would be liable will say it, you can go much longer using synthetic, even up to 5,000 miles." Also, I have been told by a different Acura tech that synthetic oil is much better for people who go over on their oil change. Does anyone acutally know if this is true? I have been going about 4,500 on my synthetic and even after all those miles, it still looks clean and fresh. Steve
  24. Just thought I would throw this in there if it helps...my mom has a 2003 Toyota Landcruiser that I used to tow a 1957 Corvette from Atlanta to Nashville with. It has NO problem. The total load was just over 6000lbs. and it does not have a anti-sway bar on the car hauler. I talked to my mechanic who has been working on only lexus/toyota for 15 years and he said that these new Landcruisers/LX470 are over engineered and can handle more than their rated load. To make a long story short, you will be fine to pull your car.
  25. The straight six in these cars in known for burning oil, it is no an uncommon problem. I used to run regular 5W-30 in my Landcruiser and it would burn just as much oil as yours. I know have a 450 and run synthetic and have not noticed it burning as much. Be careful, you are not supposed to switch to regular after using synthetic. Not quite sure why that is, but I have heard it a lot. I would contact your mechanic and see what they have to say. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Steve
