  1. I'd be interested in the gauge cluster if it operates properly
  2. Sure great to see SC 4's making 200K + in milage.... theres at least another 100 K in mine at least ......only 155K Welcome !
  3. At 350 miles per tank thats an AVERAGE of 17.5 MPG bout on par with my 93
  4. I'd go with the Lexus, 200,000 miles is not uncommon and there are more than a few of them working on 300,000 As far as the shifter problem its not complicated to disassemble the center console, I dont know a whole lot about the shifter mechanism but I do know there some tie in between the brake pedal needing to be depressed before the shifter will move, maybe the manual will help http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=52424
  5. Ok ....couple ideas here..... Firing order, are all the plug wires in their proper terminal? Are all the spark plug wires firmly seated in each terminal? Are the tiny wires leading from the ignition pick~up damaged? Is the Ignition pick~up plugged in tightly? I ask this because I had to remove both the upper + middle cam belt covers to replace my caps, which involved unpluging the ignition pick~up, so if you mechanic wasnt careful when routing the pick~up wires, they could be rubbing the cam belt or pinched and shorting, or just as simple as a plug in slightly askew.
  6. Sounds like the white smoke is mainly water vapor, it's all part of that unleaded fuel ~ cat converter thing. I gotta wonder about that "heavy fuel odor" you mentioned. Do you get the fuel odor even when the engine is up to running temp?
  7. Bad news Auto Zone cant code read the OND1 system on the 92~93 sc's, good news there is a lot of info on this and its not too tough to do.
  8. when it warms and the weather breaks..............................I'm in !
  9. yeah i didi the same except i didn't have any probs. i would fill up with reg then use some octane booster save bout $15 on fill up Dunno about your area, but here there was only a .20 cent difference between regular and premium, even at bone dry it amounts to only about $4.00 per fill up, (give or take a few pennies) about the same price as adding a quality octane booster. A "six of one half dozen of the other" kinda situation.
  10. When fuel was up around $4 a gallon I tried "cheapin out" , not a good idea, engine started being fussy, missing, funky idle, poor acceleration. Ended up costing more in the long run, because I had to spend for a bottle of octane boost. Stick with premium fuel
  11. Plain and simple, not just SC owners, but Lexus owners in general are some of the nicest folks, willing to BS about their rides at the drop of a hat.
  12. One question does it have reverse when it starts "acting up" ?
  13. Aside from needing the wear items replaced, ( tires, brakes, air filter) my 93 was in good shape, with 150k miles Dispite needing soooo much TLC, I fell for mine 1st time I test drove it. I truely expect it to make it over 250k, hopefully more!
  14. Thank You very much! Turns out it was my older version of Adobe, flie opened right up with Adobe7.0 Thanks again!
  15. Well, I tried twice and can't get it to work once downloaded Adobe tells me it has a bad encrypt dictionary
  16. The 4.0 isnt bad on fuel, my 93 SC 400 does 15 - 16 mpg in town and around 23 mpg on the highway, not too bad for a 15 year old auto. Give or take a lil bit for the right foot problems, I gotta lead right foot and a ball bearing ankle.....lol
  17. NICE ! Whats the wheel tires combo on the SC 4? Love that stance!
  18. Don't know about the fuel smell, but it kinda sounds like the cooling system still has air in it.....needing to be bled off
  19. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that's the oil pressure sensor, depending on how its leaking, it should be replaced. From the description its not just a seal, but a failure of the part sensor itself. Goodluck with it. Oil pressure sensor it is.........those things will crack between the plastic insert top and the metal housing (around the plug in terminals) resulting in a leak
  20. Pay particular attention to the grade of fuel you use.......I tried cheaping out when I got my 4.0 and try'd using mid-grade fuel 89 octane, well it wasnt pretty it started stumblin on take off .... then progressively got worse. Needless to say I went thru the whole list of possiblities, changing spark plugs, plug wires, distrib caps, and nothing helped..while sitting in the drivers seat pondering this situation ....then finally a DUHHHHH moment, I dumped a bottle of Lucas octane boost into the suspect fuel and within a couple miles it cleaned out and began running like a 4.0 should.....guess the moral of the story is....Don't over look the obvious
  21. From what I know about japanese engines.....lifters are not part of the equation here......with most jap engines the cam lobe rides on a shim,....this shim is contained in a shim bucket.....the shim bucket sits on top of the valve stem.....the shim is of specific size to bring the valve clearance within spec......thus a pronounced click in time with the engine ...coming from the under the cam cover ......could be something as simple as a sticky valve , ...a valve needing reshimed...or possibly bigger problems, a burnt valve....the coresponding sputter from the exhaust.....should be a tip off ......of some sort and NO its not a normal 4.0 thing...mine is quiet and purrs...from idle to the upper rpm's
  22. Don't get me wrong.........I wouldn't mind finding a well kept 300 , it would be a great auto to have in the stable.......if its a straight up... one or the other kinda choice..........4.0 no doubt
  23. Just put your foot deep into the right pedal...and the decision will be obvious.......4.0 rocks
  24. Yes ,...I wired my new system from the ground up...serving at least one purpose, conserving the stock wiring harness, so if ever needed I can just plug to stock head unit back in, ....of course you can buy an after market "install kit" and end up wiring in some things anyway. I've seen a lot of posts about one thing or another not working properly after installing a head unit with these "install kits" ...dimmers, power antenna's, and so on ,....to tell ya the truth, the stock wiring looks a little small for a 200 watt head unit,..... I guess I'm one of those folks that believe...."If ya want something done right ya do it yourself"....no big deal
