  1. My brake pilot has come one 3 times in the past month or so... Could this be due to my fluid being a little dark? Or perhaps is it due to low pads? thanks, Al
  2. Thanks guys!! I'll check out sparkplugs.com....
  3. Hey guys, I'm thinking of replacing my sparkplugs since my car is just about to hit 120K miles. Do you guys know where to get them? Are the original iridium plugs? I can go to the dealer, but would appreciate it if you guys know of online stores and or prices... Thanks,
  4. Bicol!!! PERFECT, I'm picking up the same wheels all 4 for 100.. and putting them on my 93.
  5. mine is a 93... with only 119k miles. I'll have my mechanic look at it when he takes it out.. so these slip ring brushes.. are they sold anywhere? I thought there was no way of fixing the alternator...
  6. Hello everyone, So my alternator went out on saturday while on my way to the beach. The battery light kept coming on, and when I shut the car off, it did not start back. 1 AAA call later, I had a jump start, and was on my way back to my house when bamm light started flikering/instrumentation acting up.. and again there I am on the side of the freeway.. so this time AAA towed me back to my house. Called the dealership, and they wanted 380 for one (it's remanufactured) Because my uncle own a shop and gets the cost deal, I called them again with that info... Still 308.00!!!! My mechanic can get me one at (auto parts store) for 140.00. Any of you have any experiences with the NON dealership alternators??? They still give you a 1 year warranty just like lexus... I think I'll go the 140 route.. over 300 is just tooo much.
  7. stupid question... but why does it go throught the brake booster?? how does that hose lead it to engine and other parts??? sorry...
  8. okay... here are the stats.. full tank, 90.00 Dollars, I was able to get 436 miles (that was 19 gallons) out of my tank.. this is every type of driving freeway with traffic..(sometimes heavy) and a bit of street 15% maybe... Not bad it breaks down to like 23.8 MPG. Just kept it under 80, and easy throttle.
  9. so that doesn't make sense then... The tank must not be 22.5 gallons.. Otherwise, the car would feasibly do high 4 to 500 miles range.... maybe it's a 19G tank.
  10. well, i'm curious to see what kind of range I end up getting on a full tank. if the tank is really 22.5, there must be a reserve of 3 gallons which means one could/should be able to get at least 50-60 miles on the reserve.... What is the most you guys have gotten when the light goes orange? I've done 22 miles I think...
  11. what do you mean by odo? My understanding is the the fool proof way to calc MPG, fill the tank, trip the odo, drive say 50 miles, fill the tank again, and divide gallons pumped this time around, by the mileage on the trip odo...? Do you have a dif. formula?
  12. I know.. I'm also a bit shocked. So Sunday evening, I fill up all the way I was already about 10miles into my yellow light (reserve i guess) so it takes 90.25 to full fill up (click) then I drove 118 miles (by the end of that day... Then, I wen't back to 76, and pumped again till the nozzle clicked... which showed 4.65 gallons.. so, 118/4.65 is 25.3MPG. Although my comute is freeway, there is a bit of traffic in the morning, and quite a bit in the afternoon on the way home. I'd say 35% in traffic overall. Yes, I did baby the throttle, and never went over 80. I filled up all the way this morning, and tripped the speedo again, I'm hoping to see what I can get out of a tank. If I can do 450, I'll be happy. but can you guys confirm that the total fuel capacity is 22.5?
  13. Hey all, Just wondering... They say the total fuel capacity on my 93 LS is 22.5 gallons. I filled up with 90.00 and averaged 25MPG overall city/hiway. Based on that mileage, I should get around 525 miles to the tank??? do you guys really think this is possible? Doesn't seem doable..
  14. When I said America, I meant the population as a whole. I hear what you guys are saying.. though. I did not use the word.. u see, it was merely presented in a transcript which pertained to a comedian and was related to the subject matter. But I see now that quotes offend some people here, so I will refrain from quoting. Cheers!!
  15. Black or not, makes no difference, spelling doesn't change the meaning of the word. I have many black freinds who take offence to the term, even with another black person using it! Being black doesn't give you ownership over the word. You can use the term all you want in private, but in public I would say you're no more empowered to use it than anyone else! see that's exactly the problem. you don't understand the word, but you fear it.. and that's ok, for you... This is the problem with America isn't it, overly PC, everyone is afraid to offend Joe black, joe white, and joe brown. If you don't like the word, don't use it. Don't watch tv, don't listen to gansta rap, or any rap.. all this is at the public's reach. As for me, it's perfectly fine, as long as I understand what it means in my terms (and that is all that matters).
  16. Is this due to the expectation that seals may be deteriorated, or that there may be wear, or strictly due to a warmer environment? I just moved to Phoenix and need to change the oil. My LS is a '99, but only has 60K miles, so certainly not the typical wear you would expect for a '99. I was planning to use 5-30 as I have in the past, especially since it should be good for slightly better mileage. But, if there is good reason to go with 10-30, I already have that around for another car. Apart from seal issues, If you are going to be residing in AZ, I would certainly go with 10/30... thicker viscosity given the fact that you are going to see some seriously high temps...
  17. quick clarification on my "N" comment... 1st. I'm black 2nd It was a quote 3rd, get your facts straight... it was not the N word, it was the N slang ending gga.
  18. 10/30 is more recommended for higher miles and warmer climates.. viscosity is a bit thicker... really not much of a dif.
  19. "they spinnin'......... Please act with some moral obligation when posting, many will find you comments offensive . thank you.

  21. ok..just had my mech do it yesterday... He drained the pan, 2+ quarts came out.. Then, he unhooked the other hose, and had me start the car.. another 3 or 4 quarts came out... added new 2 new quarts.. drained some more... drained about 7 total.. so the entire fluid had a brand new red hue to it. Shifts sooooo smooth now. Almost feels more responsive in the acceleration dept... weird.
  22. option 1 sounds good.... remember, as long as you get all maint. records to date, I think you'll have no issues. These cars are built to last 300K miles.. and are toyotas (reliable). Offer 29 out the door!
  23. I went to toyota yesterday and bought the case (12 quarts) of ATF IV fluid. Got a pretty good deal too 42.00. I'll ask my mechanic to change it soon... can more fluid be drained by running the car as the fluid is seeping from the drain? I want to replace as much of it as possible.. since I think it'll be a waste to mix new with old??? Thanks, Al
