  3. I have seen a few answers to this same question and everyone is the same - The struts need to be replaced. Apparently, once the door gets past the midpoint of travel, the struts take over and finish opening the hatch door.
  4. I believe those sensors need to be replaced every so many years but make sure you first closely follow the owner's manual's instructions to reset.
  5. Some people "roll" their fenders to accommodate wider tires.
  6. Sadly, it's the non-mechanic type who often have to give up on an old car for various reasons. Most of the time, it's because the cost of repair is more than 50% of the cost of the vehicle. I once had a 1989 Mazda MX6 GT Turbo that I loved but had to give it up because some parts were no longer available and because gasket replacement labor cost would've been more than $2000. Years ago, over on the east coast many car owners had to scrap their still-great-running cars because the frames were so rusted that the state would not allow them to be driven on public roads.

  8. Have you checked fuse #9 (SRS-B)? That covers the gauges and meters. Lexus GS430 (2001 - 2002) - fuse box diagram - Auto Genius
  9. The big question is why did the fuse blow. A loose connector would not cause this to happen, neither should a small amount of water in the trunk. I wonder if your audio receiver is simply used up.
  10. Hello, Dennis. I would surmise that there is a better chance that a technician at the dealership has experienced this before, compared to the chance that an independent shop mechanic has. Some cities have what are called "Auto-Electric" shops that employs electrical troubleshooting specialists. If your city has a shop like this, they may be able to check and possibly solve the problem at lower cost.
  11. Does this happen even when the vehicle is cold, say during early morning? Sometimes high ambient temperature conditions will have adverse effects on electronic displays. Another possible culprit could be a loose electrical connection.
  12. It seems as if you are not the only one in a very hot climate, who is experiencing this issue: My window seal tracks are melting and I want to know if anyone else had this pro - 2007 Lexus RX350 (repairpal.com)

I was using the wrong fuel in the car for months (justanswer.com) Is your mechanic a dealership technician? If not, you may want to have it inspected at a dealership (Lexus or Toyota) since it is more likely that someone there has run into the same scenario.
  14. That filter is included among many choices on the rockauto.com page for cabin filters that are for your vehicle. 1999 LEXUS LS400 4.0L V8 Cabin Air Filter | RockAuto There is a note that states: "FitsFront Only orRear Position" I'm not sure what that means. One option is to call Bosch or rockauto and ask them about your demonstrated discrepancy.

  18. I'm not sure about the brand but they may be described as black 5-spoke wheels with polished lip. This exact style is not currently popular but you can buy full black versions and a few other colors. See pages 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 to see examples. Wheels for 1998 Lexus SC300 (tirerack.com) Some shown are larger in diameter than your OEM wheels which I believe are 16-inch diameter. Here are the specs for one of the aftermarket wheels of that size: Focal F55 Black Painted (tirerack.com) Size: 16x7 Offset: +40mm Backspacing: 5.590" Bolt Pattern: 5-114 Rec. Tire Size: 225/55-16 Weight: 18.7 lbs. Finish: Black Painted
  19. I would call a dealership parts person and ask if the part numbers are the same.
  20. Are you traversing a bumpy road at the time of the outage? If so, it could be a loose connection to the display. If the dealership checks and does not find such a loose connection, they will charge you for their time, unfortunately.
  21. Jim, perhaps it is a flow-restricting orifice which may never need to be cleaned or replaced if the engine is running well. I did look at some Lexus parts suppliers but no PCV valve was listed in any of those sites.
  22. John, another suggestion would be to visit your dealership's parts department. Sometimes the exploded assembly drawing would show if there are clips holding the panels in place. I agree that it is dangerous to pull without knowing how the panel is held in place.
  23. Some vehicles have flow reducing fittings that are not considered to be true PCV valves. Did you take the part and shake it? I believe that PCV valves have a built-in check valve to prevent reverse flow but I could be mistaken. A flow-restricting orifice part will not rattle when you shake it.
