  1. The code description does not tell you what parts to change. Run the diagnostic tests for that code to find out what's really wrong. Changing parts may make you feel good put likely won't clear the code and fix the problem.
  2. Are you having a problem with the thermostat? If not and the radiator fluid has been kept clean the thermostat should be good.
  3. How much does the oil level (checked on level ground with a cold engine) go down in xxxx miles? If the repair is on you, and the oil level goes down less than 1/2 quart in 1500 miles, just add oil as necessary and don't repair it. Put a pan under the leak in the garage to contain the mess. Another option is http://www.auto-rx.com/. I used it on a '95 Avalon with good results. Won't hurt. Good luck. Tom
  4. Some suggestions: Is there coolant in the overflow bottle? When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap - can you see coolant? If not, the cap is bad or there is a leak in the cooling system. Slow leaks evaporate before hitting the ground, so don't expect to see a puddle. Change the cap (its a maintenance item and use a Lexus replacement part) and have the radiator pressure tested. Contact Lexus to see if there is a radiator recall. Good luck. Tom
  5. My suggestion - do the test procedure is for that code and see what you get. Hopefully bank 1 is the front of the engine. Tom
  6. Nothing is harder on an alternator than a bad battery/cables/connections. Don't delay getting a new battery, would be my advice. Tom
  7. TrippKnightly, What worked for me on a '95 Avalon was to change all the rear bulbs. A PIA, but the dash light would go out and I'd be good for 4-5 years. My 2 cents. :) Tom
  8. What year is your RX? Oops, its a 2006. What did it cost? Tom
  9. My wife's 2006 RX-330 has 45,000 miles on it. Occasionally, at light throttle the transmission will slowly shift to 2nd, then hunt between 2nd and 3rd. That and possibly the computer's control of the engine cause a surging/stumbling. What worries me are the transmission issues that earlier year 5-speeds have and if this stumbling will lead to early transmission issues. Anyone have this problem and got it fixed? This really is a great forum, BTW. Lots of useful information and insight. Thanks. Tom
  10. One DYI oil change on '06 (bought used) - WallyWorld dino 5w30 and ST filter; plan to change it again after 3000 miles. Also added 3 oz. auto-rx.
  11. I would avoid all 3rd party warranty providers - either a factory warranty or nothing. Tom
  12. I would check the voltage drop between the battery and the starter while the starter is cranking. Bad connections/cables could cause a lower than normal voltage at the starter resulting in higher current draw and faster contact burnout. If your battery has always been up to par and the cables and connections are good, the contacts should have lasted longer. Denso starters have a great reputation - the contacts are a normal wear item. Good luck on a successful repair! Tom
