  1. No, 1uzfe I am talking about the coolant cross over pipe. It may be called a coolant bypass pipe but I'm not sure. I am not talking about an oil leak. The oil leak at the rear main seal would leak on the bottom of the tranny. I am talking about the top of the engine. It is just running down the seem where the engine and tranny meet. Thanks for the answer though.
  2. Sorry everybody I forgot to mention that my car is a 91 ls 400. thanks again.
  3. Hello everybody. Well I recently thought I had a leaking head gasket because I could see coolant coming down from the side of the head. Well, I cleaned everything up and started the engine and the car would not leak. It took 4 days for the leak to emerge again. This time the leak was dripping exactely where the engine and tranny connect. The leak is coming from above but, I cant pinpoint it. Also the leak is coming from both sides and it is dripping the same exact way. The leak is hard to find because of the space limitations and because it is running straight down the seem where the tranny and block meet. I think my rear coolant crossover is leaking at the gaskets. My question is if anybody here has ever experienced this? Does the leak from that location generally run right where the block and tranny meet? Also, is this a common problem? I'm going to work on the car this weekend and was just wondering if anybody had experienced this before?
  4. Sounds like you may need a tune up. I would change the spark plugs and the wires. Also, while you are at it check your motor mounts if they are broken you can have a vibration there.
  5. Hey guys I have a 91 ls400 with 127.000. The car runs excellent but has had a coolant leak from the top of the reservoir right out of the collant level sensor. I have tried to fix the leak many times with no success. I never worried about the leak because it isn't bad and the car never overheats. Well, I just got under my car to do some work on it and noticed another coolant leak and it has me very worried. The coolant leak is coming from the drivers side, "same side the reservoir is leaking from" and it looks like it is right under the exhaust manifold. There are allot of wires running under there and it seems like either the coolant is coming from that covering around the wires, which would mean it is traveling from somewhere else or it is coming directly from the cylinder head, which would mean I need a new head gasket. :cries: I am a mechanic and I have not taken it apart yet to get a better view. I need to move the wires and maybe take off the heatshield on the manifold. My question is if there is a water pipe also running under the driver side exhaust manifold or not. The car is running perfect and is not smoking in any way. If the leak is at the head gasket it must be at the corner of the gasket so, no smoke no mixing with oil or anything. It is just a leak. Please help with any ideas. Thanks.
  6. Try putting in some fuel injector cleaner like Chevron Techron. Maybe your fuel injectures are alittle dirty. You may also have gotten bad gas. Good luck.
  7. Try using a different key. The key maybe damaged.
  8. I just bought a new tranny mount for my 91 ls400. The part# 12371-50010 . It cost me $54.00. Hope this helps anybody.
  9. Wellcome. I would start with the water pump. It sounds like to me that your bearing failed and it just let loose. The problem is that the water pump job is a big job. You have to take out the timing belt and while you are at it you might as well change the belt. The powersteering is also serious because it can short out the alternator and your battery will not charge up. You have two big problems. The water pump is first. Good luck and feel free to ask questions. B)
  10. I checked irontoad on the internet and did not see a listing for tranny mounts. Did I miss something or have they stopped selling it?
  11. Hey Travieso I would have to hear the noise to make a correct diagnoces but it sounds like a bad cat to me. Generally a bad cat sounds like there are marble loose inside of them and the also sound like there is an air leak. You seem to have both symtoms but, you should also be loosing power. Are you loosing power and if you are loosing power you will lose more power the hotter the car gets. i suggest that you get under your car and find which one is damaged. Good luck.
  12. Do you hear an exhaust leak. The fan does create the effect of hot air blowing underneath. Your car has 3 cats, two in the front and one in the middle. An exhaust leak will be easy to find because these cars are very quiet. Also describe the sound you maybe hearing from underneath the car. Later
  13. I'm pretty sure my ls400 needs tranny mounts. I want to replace them. Is there any other place I can buy them except from the dealer? Also does anybody know what is the going price for these mounts.
  14. migirdech. I dont have fluid disapearing. I just have the loss of powersteering. I never have to add fluid and it is always full. I dont have any leaks either. I am going to try and clean my solenoid on the weekend and we'll see what happens.
  15. Thanks 99lsguy but my ball joints are all new. I put them all in myself. This is definetely a powersteering problem. The steering gets hard at any time. It even gets hard when you are just partked moving the wheel back and forth. It is really weird. It will get very hard and then it will be just fine. This can happen at any time.
  16. Hey jccnita. what is the cross junction part that you are referring to. and where is it?
  17. Thanks Migirdech. I'll check all that out.
  18. My car does not leak any powersteering fluid. Level is always fine. I never have to add any fluid. What is the idle control valve. Is that the component that has the two vacuum line attached to it? Also, I cant seem to locate the solenoid on the rack. Is it behind the big bolt? Any pictures would be appreciated.
  19. My powersteering fluid is at the correct level so, I guess I have a powersteering pump that is failing intermittantely. I find it so weird that it is failing like this usually they just go bad but, hey I guess anything can happen.
  20. <_< I'm having problems with my powersteering. I have a 91 ls400 and for some odd reason at any given moment it feels as if I have lost 90% of the power steering. This can last seconds or even minutes. It is very odd because once it comes back it is fine. Please give me ideas I jus find it odd that it is an intermittent problem. :chairshot:
  21. Hi 92lex. Engine has to be running when checking the tranny fluid.
  22. Sorry bswan. I wish I could hear the noise it would be helpful. Well I hope it isn't anything bad. Good luck
  23. Wow that is very odd. I could be anything. I could be something loose under there and making noise. I would get underneath the car and check to see if you see anything loose.
  24. Very strange. Grinding could mean tranny but you said that when you shift to neutral the noise is still there. It might be something in the drive line or differential. But, you did not say where you think the noise is coming from. Is it coming from the front, back, left or right. It could be a bad hub bearing but generally that noise would be constant and change with speed. Are you sure the noise is not contant and just more pronounced at 55?
  25. We need more information. Can you describe where you think the noise is coming from. Any information will help. :chairshot:
