  1. I also had that problem and believe it or not it ended up being my brand new rotors that were slightly warped. You may want to have them resurfaced. My rotors were new and were warped so you never know. Good luck
  2. Hey 92 Lex my car was running fine for 3 weeks. How would you test the air flow meter. I dont know how to test it. I checked online to see how to test it but it shows that you need special tools. Do you know a way to test it. I was also checking online and I read that it could be an exaust leak or a vacume leak or several other things.
  3. Hello everybody I just got a code#25 while running a diagnostic on my car. The book says that this is a 25 Air–Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction . Two weeks ago I had to put in an air flow meter that I bought at the junk yard. Does anybody think that it could be the same problem. Thanks. Oh I have a 91 ls400.
  4. Are you sure wwest? Then why do both my tires spin when you hit the gas when stuck in the snow?
  5. Hey guys. I have a 91 ls without the trac system. I got stuck last year in the snow and when asked which tire was spinning we noticed that both tires were spining. These cars do has limmited slip dont they?
  6. Hey Flanker, you are going to have to search for the leak. First things first, make sure it isn't mixing with the oil by just checking your oil dipstick. If that is fine then you will have to look all over for this leak. Check the reservoir for the coolant and check that it isn't leaking out of any of the hoses attached to it or even the sensor on top. Next check to see if you see any leak noticeable in the location where the water pump is located. Check the radiator and its hoses and in my case I got underneath my car and the leak was coming down the rear sides of the engine. My leak was coming out of the cross over pipe. Good luck searching.
  7. The coolant is a closed system. If you are missing some it is either leaking out or being burned. My car was also missing coolant. I finally found the problem to be the rear cross over pipe. It was a real messy job but my leak is fixed. You are going to have to find where the leak is. Good luck.
  8. What happens if you rev the engine at a stand still?
  9. Hi MistaG by any chance is your check engine light on? How do your exhaust fumes smell. Does it smell rich in gas or what? It could be a tps sensor but not sure.
  10. You need to find out which side the noise is coming from. More than likely it is a heat shield.
  11. It could be a heat shield but, is a metallic noise or something else?
  12. Hey guys my friend has a 2004 es300 with the navigation system. He just wants to know how do you delete the memory from the naviation system. His is showing that it is full. Thanks.
  13. Hey ebridges the tranny fluid that went in my engine did more damage than I had hoped for. It actually damaged my "air flow meter" I had to buy one at a junk yard and now all is well. What a nightmare.

    Help

Hello everybody. Yesterday I told everybody about my problem with the power steering control valve and the engine sucking up all of the power steering fluid. Well anyway the car is running really bad and the check engine light came on. It is stalling allot and not running right. I ran a diagnostic and got a code 31 "air flow meter. Has anybody experienced this problem with the air flow meter and the car running really bad. Please advise thanks. :cries:
  15. Hi srk the part is called the air control valve but it could be called the idle up valve. On the bag that it came it is says, "valve assy, air". Hi Monarch. I am going to clean the filter on the solenoid next.. Thanks for the advise.
  16. Hey everybody. I finally put in my new power steering pump in my 91 ls400. It is a real easy job. I had basically no problems except I didn't notice that a little metal piece inside my air control valve fell out. :chairshot: Well, I started up the car and it started smoking like crazy. :cries: I had to take it off again and I notice the problem on the air control valve. For those of you who don't know what the air control valve is, it is the black part towards the bottom side of the pump with the two vacuum line connected to it. I put the new control vavle on and it is all fixed now. Now I just have to wait for all the smoke to clear and the car to start running correctly. I also wanted to tell everybody the the part# for the control valve is 17630-16040. :D
  17. Any one of the three things can happen. I can stall, run ruff or not start. There are to many variable of what can be wrong. You should have the car diagnoced. Remember it can also be a vacuum leak.
  18. Wow you checked that quick. Now things get a little complex. You can have anything from a vacume leak to a bad sensor. Sorry but those were the easy things to look for. The most common sensor for a car not starting is the Mass Airflow Sensor. That is the big aluminum sensor with a plug that attached to the air filter but, it is expensive and you don't want to play guessing games. I have been told that if you tap it a couple of times and the vehicle starts then you know where your problem is but, I would actually take it to be diagnoced. Sorry man.
  19. Hi 92Lex. First thing you have to do is find out if you have spark and fuel. Spark is easy just unhook one of your wires from each side and put a spark plug in it and have someone crank while you are holding it up to a metal surface on the car. If you see spark on both sides of the engine with this check then you know that you have spark. Next thing you have to do is check if you have fuel. You can do this by disconnecting one of the lines on the fuel rale and having somebody crank the engine. Be careful and use rags so that fuel doesn't spill everywhere. If you have fuel and spark then you need to work on the next thing. Good luck.
  20. Well everybody I have my rotors cut and the problem is all gone. The brand of the rotors that I bought were Raybestos. Wow the car feels excellent now.
  21. Thanks 90ls400lexus. Tomorrow I am going to get the new rotors cut. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this and if it was fixed by cutting the rotors. Thanks for the reply.
  22. Hey everybody. Today I put new rotors and brake pads on my car. I did this because last week the car started to vibrate when I put on my brakes. After I put on my brakes and rotors the car got worse. The car shakes like crazy when I step on the brakes but the strange this is that the shifter is also rocking back and forth. My mechanic friend says that these new rotors are definately warped which is possible but, has anybody else every experienced the shifter rocking back and forth because of there rotors being warped. I have a 91 ls 400 with all new motor mounts and tranny mount. Please help. :cries:
  23. Hello everybody. I have a 91 ls400. I just wanted everybody to know that I put the new gaskets on my rear cross over pipe and what a pain that was. I actually saw my starter and was able to touch it. Well for anybody wanting to change there starters beware. This is a difficult job but, not impossible. You need alot of patience and time. Today I did my motor mounts. The tranny mount is really easy, it only take 30 minutes. The front passenger one is also easy maybe an hour. The difficult one is the one on the drivers side. I did manage to get it off without removing the rack. I removed the oil filter, several line that were in the way and I also took off the high pressure and low pressure line off the rack & pinion. Taking off the rack & pinion lines made a big difference. I took the mount directly off the block and jacked up the engine. The mount came off easy and the new one went in easy. This mount took approximately 2 and a half hours. :D
  24. Well everybody I am writing this as a continuation to the saga of my coolant leak. Well I was trying to pinpoint the leak but the only way I could do it was by removing the intake manifold. Wow what a job. Unfortunatley for me the intake manifold wasn't the hardest part. It turns out the rear water cross over pipe or, "rear water bypass pipe" is a real nightmare to remove. Who was the brain surgeon at Lexus that decided to put the wiring harness right above it. The wiring harness is a living nighmare to move but, I was able to move it enough to be the cross over pipe out. The gasket was definately broken. Now the fun part will be putting it all back together again. Oh and by the way wow, I can actually see the starter in there. What a nightmare that is going to be if I have to change it. Well I will be putting it back together tomorrow. I will let everybody know how it goes.
  25. My father has a 95 e320. I was never impressed by it. The car has hard seats you feal many road bumps that are isolated in the ls. The radio is junk and the quality of the whole car is not what I expected in a Benz. My father has owned several brand new Benzes and quality has always been an issue. I am only impressed by the acceleration, the handling is only average. Keep on looking for an LS there are many out there. Good luck.
