  1. how offten should they be changed? at about 80,000 becuase that is not cheep almost 400 bucks for the 4 of them or can you get away with just doing the first 2? ← The answer shoudl be in your 'maintenance' supplement manual. There are other factors as well such as the quality & grade of gasoline is used, if the car is driven for very short trips vs. highway trips over 12 miles or so etc. B)
  2. What about doing damage to your engine over time?
  3. I assume the dealer is a Lexus store? IF that's the case they can do one of 2 things......you can mention it to them & have it on the contract in writing to make sure everything checks out (at that mileage I'm guessing it will with flying colours). Failing that, they have a very detailed inspection process (at least a CPO Lexus in Canada does) & I would make sure you get the copy of the report upon delivery (also put that in the contract / agreement) as it should be on the list of things to inspect. Should there be a problem......its in writing & under warranty so they would have to fix it. If they start to give you the 'song & dance' before you purchase the car, be patient & find another car & Lexus dealer. What your asking for IMO is minor & they should be more than happy to check into this I would think.....especially if you are a repeat customer. B) I did the same checks you mention here.......there are NO recalls on the 2001 ES 300 & one major TSB is the engine gelling issue........also make double sure all oil & filter changes are up to date & mention to your folks to consider switching to synthetic oil for better protection but at the same intervals. Keep us posted & Good Luck!! Pic would be nice too B) The pearl white is georgous, especially with those red tail lights!! ;) Is it from Lexus of Louisville by the way? ;)
  4. I'm not sure I'm following what your trying to ask.....what year is the RX & what has been the problem(s) with the vehicle?
  5. Get an engine block heater installed instead......much cheaper than a remote starter & you save a lot more fuel as well (letting your vehicle idle for several minutes or more is not good for your engine & you get 0 MPG). ;) Some new GM models have this feature as standard equipment now & imo, one of the stupidest features invented in the last 10 years or so due to it's high cost which has not been proven long term yet as it's still in it's 'infant' stages & wasteful concept. (unless of course you there is no place to plug your block heater into).....but even many buildings that have underground parking have an electrical outlet for block heaters. Installed for about $50 - 70. With the money saved, put it into other mods for your RX B)
  6. I financed mine......most (not all) folks that do get a 'brand new' Lexus usually lease the car because of the original new cost (and get more car for less of a monthly payment). Majority of 'pre-owned' Lexi are the opposite & either bought outright or financed, with only some used Lexi leased again. B) The same can be said about other 'high end' luxury vehicle brands. ;)
  7. That would really suck at only 22k miles.
  8. Happy to help ruby. B) ← I recently purchased a set of Yoko V4S for my 96 ls400. After a few weeks of driving, I love them. Great traction and very silent. Got them for under $400 out the door! I did a lot of research and chose these because of others recommendations and tire ratings. ← Good things have been said too about the Yoko V4S & H4S. B)
  9. What or why do you need a remote starter for? Just courious. B)
  10. SK, if your not on the 25th tour list, no worries, I'm sure they will add you to the upcoming one in the spring. B)
  11. DRL's are a wise & useful safety feature........it doesn't harm anything on the vehicle by leaving them engaged. Some thing the 'bulb life' will be shortened with this feature which is simply not the case. One wouldn't disable the air bag or your ABS sensors would they? & if you did, people would look at you sideways wondering why Same applies to the drl's.....they are designed & built by Lexus to enhance safety & so other drivers see you sooner in bad weather conditions. B)
  12. I'm not 100% sure of the answer either.....call a couple Lexus dealers & ask them the question & get them to try & explain it. All I know is DRL's were standard fare in Canada from the 1990 model year & up. My 01 ES has just the regular low amp DRL's when I release my parking brake as well when the car is running. B)
  13. Chrome trunk bar & 05 Tail lights Steve! :D B)
  14. Agreed monarch.....it's one of the most (if not THE most) overlooked item when doing a tune up.......very important item to replace at regular intervals in the owners manual. B)
  15. Bill, IF you haven't done a tranny flush, I would get it done. I assume what you describe here is a 'complete' tranny flush as opposed to a 'drain & fill'? They have a 'flushing' machine that get's almost all of the old fluid out while putting in brand new fluid correct? ;) I like that way personally......I did it last year on my 01 ES & the tranny has never been smoother. You might want to consider getting the filter mesh screen cleaned & the tranny pan gasket replaced at the same time. & yes it's safe & a wise idea (I'm not a fan of the 'drain & fill' method as it only get roughly 1/3 the old fluid out & the rest is still in the torque converter). Good Luck! B)
  16. Hi everyone, Found this on the Motortrend website. Apparently you can 'Supercharge' any vehicle for just $69.95! :chairshot: Whatever. Click the link: http://www.turbonator.com/index.html
  17. Let's not panic! I work at for Lexus at TMMC, so make sure that you wave at me when you get there. As far as you scheduling plant tours, it is as simple as calling them directly at (519) 653-1111 ext. 2270. YOu don't have to plan it few months in advance. I think that there is a waiting list of about 2-3 weeks. Here is some additional info: http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WW...t160000e%2ehtml Hope it helps. ← Lexusfreak: Just curious about this RX tour on the 25th of January? I clicked on your hyperlink and noticed tours run each week. Why is Jan. 25th special? hybev1 ← This tour is strictly for Lexus owners on Jan 25th, 2005......the tour will focus more on the Lexus side of things rather than the Toyota side (Matrix, Corolla). PLUS, Lexus is providing a buffet lunch befor the tour starts at a fancy banquet hall & we travel from Lexus Canada head office in Scarborough, Ontario by luxury 'coach bus' to the plant. All expenses are paid by Lexus. :D SK, you can send Lexus Canada an e-mail (at the e-mail address I gave before) & request to be put on the list for the April or May tour (again for Lexus owners only). The tour is now filled up for the Jan 25th date.
  18. The brand new Goodyear 'Assurance line' of premium all season tires are wortha closer look as well........either the Comfortread or the TripleTread. www.goodyearassurance.com B)
  19. For the LS, I would add: - Falken Ziex ZE-512 - Toyo Proxes TPT - Yokohama Avid H4S & V4S (depending on the speed rating you want / need) - Goodyears new 'Assurance' line which are either the Comfortreads OR Triple Treads. (the GY Triple Treads trump the Michelin Hydroedge because of the ice traction they are capable of) B)
  20. The Michelin MXV+ I had a chance to get as a replacement when my ES needed tires.......not a great tire, but no too bad either......the Toyo's I have are much better overall with better traction & a quieter ride & much less expensive. B)
  21. Dear Lexusfreak...My husband and I would like to take the RX tour. Can you tell me how to contact the plant? We are near Boston, MA so it's a 7 or 8 hour trip to Ontario for us. I'd appreciate any info :P . I tried to post a note about this to you earlier but I guess it got lost. Getting around in here is not like using my AOL.(LOL) Thanks Hybev1 ← Hybev, I think your too late to join us for the Jan 25th tour. However, there will be another one in April or May........I will know more when I go on my tour on Jan 25th as I will be asking the question to the Lexus guides then. In the meantime, you can e-mail Lexus Canada at: lexus_feedback@lexus.ca & see if you can be put on the list for the 'spring' tour. I hope this helps & Good Luck! B)
  22. I have to agree- I've been running the Yokohama AvidV4S for awhile now and they have been excellent. They are V-rated and appear to be wearing well so far. I find them to be particularly quiet. They less than $75 at Tirerack for 225-60-16. ← Good things have been mentioned about the Yoko's as well ple B) The H4S & V4S have good reviews. B)
  23. Wouldn't you feel &/or hear a 'bang' bain if the engine was shifting?
  24. Steve, My personal opinion is if you get the visors, the best thing you can do to enhance everything on the car (which includes the paint & the visors) is to put a 'light' (35% all around) quality charcoal tint..........would that silver ever look sharp then! just my 2 cents. B) ;)
  25. Correct sw. B) A new or newer vehicle is I hate to say it, is the worst (some call an 'investment') thing one can purchase as far as loosing money is concerned. Does not matter if it's import or domestic (although as most know....domestic re-sale values fall much faster).....they all depreciate, the more the car originally cost.......the more it will depreciate. :(
