  1. Ive got the same exact problem. When I get a chance im going to try what Scott Gordon said. Doesn’t seem too hard to do. Has anyone else done this. So basically your removing the rivet bending the black frame around the door and putting a new rivet on. Hopefully its as easy as it sounds.
  2. I just ordered a harness and amp integration harness and should get it on Friday. Ill let you guys you know how the install goes.
  3. I went to a stereo shop today and the guy said the only way to install an aftermarket stereo on these cars is to cut the factory harness and hard wire everything. He said I would have to run all new speaker wires from the amp (in the trunk) to the front of the car where the harness is. I dont know what to do they said $250 (negotiable) to install this head unit. Does this sound right? The is my winter car so i wanted to spend the least amount of cash by doing all the labor myself. I’ve installed several different stereos and tv's in cars and I don’t see why this one is so difficult. For some reason my blinkers don’t work now with the radio out of the car. Im hoping this harness on ebay will include the connections for the blinkers as well. Has anyone here actually done this to a GS300 so they could give me an idea of what to do. Any ideas are well appreciated.
  4. I would check your brakes to make sure none of them are sticking.
  5. Its sounds to me like this is differential related. Are there any abnormal vibrations while driving? Have you tried putting the car in neutral while going around 30mph? Does the noise change? I was on a test drive with a tech and was listening for a noise so he sped the car up put it in neutral and turned the car off to track down the problem. You might want to try this. I’ve heard a couple bad differentials and this is what it sounds like. A droan coming from the diff. With your symptoms you could us a process of elimination and everything points towards the differential.
  6. I just bought my bosses car which is a 1993 Lexus GS300. Its blue with black tint. He has had a lot of problems with it so he just sold it to me for 1000 bucks. The car only has 58000 miles on it and with a little work it will be in tip top shape. The first oil change I did the oil was dark so Ill be doing that again very soon. So here is a list of all the stuff I need to do:: basic maintance items (pcv, fuel filter, oil, trans fluid), brakes and rotors all around including parking brake assembly which doesn’t work at all, a window motor, power antenna, tune up, cracked wood trim, and an electrical problem in the dome light circuit. This car just hasn’t been maintained how it should have been. I am able to get a lot of these parts for cheap and I do all the labor so it really isnt that bad of a deal. Ill be on here often especially since this my first foreign car.
  7. Yeah I really don’t want to hack into the factory harness so Ill go to some local stereo shops and see if they might have this 92 and up Lexus wiring harness if not Ill just order that one on ebay. Thanks for the help guys.
  8. On my car: 1993 Lexus GS300 its on the top (near firewall) on the drivers side. Its in the valve cover. I didnt notice the date until now so you probably found it but just in case anyone else might need to know.
  9. Did you file a complaint with ebay? You should contact the seller first and demand a refund especially if he didn’t mention this defect.
  10. Thanks 92lex, after some consideration of my mechanical skills, i broke down and had the dealer replace the front fit kit. the back may need to be replaced soon though, so i will begin to prepare my self for this inevitability. Just in case you want to tackle this project next time I recommend the spray disc brake quiet. Its worked better for me and it was also cleaner. I cant even imagine what a Lexus dealer would charge for a brake job. I know at Chevy it was a very high. Luckily Im going to school now and will be a full time technician soon. Good luck and hopefully no more creeks.
  11. Thanks Lnino I e-mailed autotoys last night and they said they didn’t have anything that would fit my car but that ebay link looks promising. The back of my stereo has the two connection which they mention in the description so I they might sell the plug I need. I cant believe this is the only company which makes harnesses for this car. I thought I was going to have the hack into the factory wiring harness. Would you know why there are two plugs? Is one for the stereo (speakers) and the other for the amp? I found an amp integration wiring harness so i guess I will that too? Thanks Again
  12. Hello everyone im new to this board and this is the first foreign car I own so maybe you guys could help me out. It’s a 1993 Lexus GS300. Im trying to install a stereo with a cd player and cant seem to find a wiring harness. I already have this nice Sony cd player that I want to put in because I’ve got a long commute to school and the radio isnt any good. I already bought the install kit which looks great. The audio shop said he doesn’t carry the wiring harness and I cant seem to find it online. I don’t get it they make the install kit but no wiring? Has anyone on the board installed a new stereo? Any help is appreciated since i already have the old stereo out and was hoping to get it running by Tuesday. Thanks in advance John
