  2. Hi, I have a 95 sc400 that i recently installed new magnaflow mufflers and a custom made cold air intake. I was expecting my mufflers to be louder then they are, i cant even hear them over the intake,as a matter of fact you cant hear them unless you are standing behind the car. I was wondering what can i do to make my exhaust note louder without really chopping up the exhaust or hurting the cars performance? I dont want anything thats outrageous but i want people to know its a V8 coming. Any suggestions?
  3. I dont think there are any kits avaliable to install the deck but what i would do is go to any shop that installs decks and ask for a filler. You can also try any store like circuit city which also installs stereos. Its basically a peice of plastic that fills in the space left in the console, it should cost only a couple dollars. They come in different sizes so make sure you measure the space you need if you are doing it yourself. I will send you some pics of my car stereo from my other car that has this filler. Check out this setup http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=4600
  4. Thanks Jibbby thats was really helpful!
  5. Thanks for your info Jibbby, i was just curious as to what you use to clean your throttle body. Plus instead of cleaning this filter with all those oils and what not i will just get an AEM dry flow filter once this one is dirty. You also mentioned that i might have intake problems later on if i dont cover the filter, what sort of problems? and whats your suggestion on how to protect it? Chase Croft - im not a master at exhausts but i got 2 oval magnaflows, like Jibbby and GaDawg recomended installed on my car about a month ago. It has a nice deep tone at low rpms and i also noticed a bit of hp gain at higher rpms. You can always just get muffler s installed and if thats not loud enough for you , remove your resonators, that should be loud enough and deep enough. Plus its a lot cheaper then $700 , but its up to you.
  6. Thanks Jibbby, the filter is actually just below the sheet metal that was under the stock intake box. All i did was cut a hole, and just connect my pipes down through it. The filter isnt incased in anything it just sits there sucking up cold air and making a nice deep sound when accelerating. I definately feel a boost in hp and even more in torque. I dont know if this is better then the BFI setup but i imagine it would be because before i went cold air i had my filter just sitting in the stock spot. It was great when car was cold, but once it warmed up, it felt like i was in a go kart. Another thing i should mention for those who are thinking about doing an intake, dont replace the tube before the MAF, its unique design and special resonator help keep its power. I've read and heard that changing that pipe with one such as an injen will actually decrease power. So look for parts seperatly on ebay or other auto stores. its an overall better and cheaper way to go. I also included more pictures so you can have a better idea of what i did and how the filter is getting its air.
  7. This weekend was fun. I replaced my air filter with the K&N stock replacement filter. I also replaced my plugs with NGK platinums and the OEM High-tension cables with Bosche. MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I haven't had my muffler work done yet and I can feel a HUGE surge of HP. While the torque isn't there (convereter here we come), but once it gets going it throws me back in the seat.....NICE!!! I'll post some pics of my muffler set up as soon as its done. I'm going to replace everything aft of the center cat first, then I'm going to replace the cats per your recommendation. Your existing filter, plugs and wires must have really been in bad shape...I happy you got some gains from that, you on your way...The exhaust mods and torque converter will do wonders... I just finished my custom cold air intake this weekend and love it. If you're lookin for a throaty sound and a torque and hp boost then its definately worth it. I got an MAF adapter on ebay, some intake piping and couplers from autozone, and about an hour of work.
  8. I know this is an old topic but i still have unanswered questions. I have been searching for a new wood steering wheel. I have searched ebay and found lexus steering wheels ranging from $40 to $475 and i have no clue in the difference and which one will work with my 95' sc400. Any suggestions, thoughts?
  9. Definately nice, i wanted to do the same thing and was told dont do this cheap set up but go for the real thing. I was told that i have to find a set, on ebay, that comes with the same size rings as the sc400's then its possible to install and it will last and glow brighter. So i geuss if you find out the size diameter of the sc400 projector housing ring, you might be able to find bulbs that will fit. To find out the size of the ring around the projector you have to take apart the light. So if you know the size or are willing to do it, let me know what you come up with. Thanks.
  10. I have 17 inch rims on my car and the only difference i noticed is that the ride is a bit more bumpier because there is less cushion from the lower profile tires. I would say go with either one because you do get a bit more better handling to. Overall its worth it and you wont even notice you have them.
  11. If you want a lights for cheap then check out this link. It is both 9006 and 9005 lights. All for $20 plus $1 shipping. I am pretty sure they will work even though it says its for a Chrysler 300c. http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PA...PROD_ID=2083904
  12. Take it to an exhaust shop. I had mine checked to because i felt like mine were clogged. As soon as i drove into the shop they lifted my car and by simply knocking on the cats and reving the engine they knew whether or not they were fine. they told me that if i put the car into P and can rev the engine to 6 thousand RPM with ease then the cats aren't building up any extra pressure. So either try reving the car to 6 thousand Rpm or just take it to an exhaust shop.
  13. If i were to get the new amplifier could i and should i connect both the stock and the aftermarket amp or only aftermarket to the new sub? Also wanted to know if there is enough space to hide the amp under the rear deck. Thanks!
  14. Hey, I have a 95 sc400 and i have basically the same things. My temp is just a little bit or the half way mark. my rpm are exactly the same as yours and my gas milage is only city so its 13 mpg. Which isn't great but today i got a new gas cap from lexus for $20 and i'll see what the economy is like at the next refueling. Your car seems to be fine in terms of what you mentioned.
  15. Was this an OEM lexus gas cap or a $10 replacement from an auto parts store?
  16. Becuase it was clogged or was it some other problem? How can i know if my cats are messed up?
  17. Thanks for all the info. I did go to a transmission shop and they said that the oil seemed to be fine ( i did replace it about 1500 ago). They said if it only happened 3 times in 8 months its probably nothing to worry about. I'll see whats up in the future and go from there. Thanks you every body for your comments.
  18. Sorry to hear about your problem, i had something similar to this and was also told to replace a lot of parts. after taking it to a really good mechanic it turned out all i needed was a $5 replacement bolt. So make sure that you are definate about were the leak is coming from.
  19. I tried replacing the stock 10 (i also have a nakamichi system) with a free air 10" rockford and it had trouble pushing that so I went back to stock and it sounded better I would reccomend upgrading the amp at the same time you buy a bigger sub Do you know what would happen if i replaced my premium sound sub with an aftermarket one that isn't free air? Also wanted to know if it would be possible to build an enclosure in the stock space. Thanks.
  20. Hi, I have a 95' SC400 with almost 94k on it. I got it about 8 months ago and it seemed to be driving well. About 4 months later i was driving about 35 mph and hit the gas. The motor hit 6 thousand rpm but i wasn't accellerating. I let the gas go until i got down to 3 thousand rpm and only then the car started accellerating again. Unfortunatley this is the third time this happened in about 5 months. I was wondering if this is the tranny going bad or some other problem. Thanks.
