  1. Okay, I need tires for my 94 LS400. I've made my decision on which brand/model (bridgestone LSV). I've priced them out at Tire Rack and with shipping I'm looking at @$550 to my door. Then I'd have to pay a local shop about $80 to mount/balance them. i could get them from my local Firestone dealer for a total of about $15 more out the door. I hear on this group all the time how great a place Tire rack is to buy from. Am I missing something on the economics here? Any alternatives? JIMA
  2. Well I'm fresh out of floormats for this one. Good luck with the new car. JiMA
  3. I'd check the distributor cap and wires first.
  4. Most states only require odometer accuracy for the 1st ten years so your car (and mine) would be excluded from this accuracy requirement. I'm sure it has more to do with protecting lenders rather than consumers.
  5. Smooth roads cruising anywhere between 35 and 45. Engine about 1/2 of normal operating (observed) temperature. I used to have an old POS S10 pickup that the CEL light would come on but you could tell by the way it ran that it was on. With the Lexus I notice no difference in performanance when it comes on or goes back off.
  6. Thanks for the info Walt. Since the code is intermittent, is it possible to narrow the list down a bit? Anybody have any experience withe their car throwing this code and what was the fix?
  7. Got my fancy code reader the other day. (its basically a wire) I just pulled the stored code. Code 25 Air–Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction This mean I'm running lean? The CEL comes on in the morning on my way to work at about the same spot. It goes off a few miles later and then the next morning it come back on. What should I be looking at? I've been thinking of doing the TB cleaning. Is there something I can maintain on the AFM as well?
  8. Seats for sell on Ebay. Not mine. Just trying to help. http://tinyurl.com/gwa83
  9. I know this would be more work for you, but how about columns for different years and let people chime in with part numbers. this would be a very valuable tool for the forum. I have a 94 so as it sits it has limited value for me. I'd start one for the 94 but haven't had to buy any parts as of yet.
  10. Can you point me ot the instructions on doing this? TIA
  11. I called around, none of the local stores have these so I went ahead and ordered one online. Thanks for showing me what to look for. I'll report in once the codes are read.
  12. Could you point me ot one? I've been searching the web for over an hour now and can't find anything less than $100.
  13. My CEL light started coming on and going out this week. This is right after I had the AC repaired. I checked with O'Reilly, Advance Auto and Autozone and they say they can't read a 94 Lexus. Its wierd that it started throwing the code right after the AC repair. I think I'll do the battery trick to reset it and see if it comes back. The car seems to run fine whether the CEL is on or off. Any ideas?
  14. The seats had just been cleaned and treated with Lexol literally the week before the dog buggered them up. they aren't that bad, but I can tell they're dirty. I'll try the 10:1 solution. thanks
  15. I picked up the Lex last night. Man I didn't know how much I missed it. One sweet ride. Ended up costing me $905 for parts and labor. This was really cheap. I've known this mechanic my entire life and consider him a friend first. He always cuts me a break and I always refer work his way. JimA
  16. I've searched the forum and can't find an answer for what I am looking for. I cleaned and treated my seats with Lexol about a month ago. Since then, I have had to take my dog with me out of town for a week and the seats are dirty now due to him stomping around on the leather. How do I clean the seats without having to re-treat the seats with Lexol? Try a wet towel first? Woolite solution? Lexol cleaner?
  17. My carpet was very dirty...and I mean dirty. I did what Blake did and removed the seats and took the carpet out of the car. Sprayed it down with carpet cleaner and then power washed the heck out of it. Let it drain for a couple of hours and then repeated the process with Simple Green and power washed it again. I then hung it up in the basement to dry. It took a few days to dry completely. It went back in pretty easily. While I had the seats out I cleaned and treated all of the leather. Now my interior looks and smells really nice. The previous owner was a smoker and I guess he spilled every coke and coffee he ever took into the car. I feel any other attempt is only touching the surface while the power washing gets it deep down clean. It didn't take ALL of the stains out, but it did most.
  18. With my AC out, I had a 270 mile drive home from central KS with the windows down last week. Speed was kept constant at right around 78 using the cruise. The wind noise beat the he!! out of me but I did average a little over 28 mpg for the trip. I would have given up 5mpg to have had A/C. I've yet to average less than 20mpg for city driving.
  19. Since I realized I don't have the time or energy to do the repair myself, my 94 is at the mechanic's getting the AC repaired. Rebuilt compressor/clutch and new drier installed for just below $1k. After spending a week in central KS without air plus a 97 degree 270 mile drive home, my mind was made up. Had to have it fixed ASAP. I should have it back Monday.
  20. Some brand/model recommendations would be nice.
  21. I bought my 94 LS400 about 2 months ago. I am just now getting around to working on the exterior finish. It is good shape but needs a good claying and polishing. One area I need help on is on the passenger side down low. Apparently the prevous owner picked up some road paint from lane striping. I have no idea how long it has been there. What should I use? Denatured alcohol? Mineral spirits. I don't want to remove the good paint, just the bad paint.
  22. How much would an LA LExus dealer charge to do it?
  23. Looks like Omar was the first taker. Consider them gone. Thanks all, JimA
  24. Email me off-list at gnnut@NOSPAMsbcglobal.net. Remove the NOSPAM. We'll get it set up.
