  1. I paid $4k for my 94 this past May. The car had 143k on the clock. The issues at the time of purchase were: Climate Control LCD black Tires with only about 30% tread left. Interior filthy, really filthy. Broken antenna mast. No remote key. Cup holder broken Air bag light on. Car had been in a front end accident in 01. Not a real high quality repair in my opinion. Since then the A/C compressor shot craps ($930). Cleaned interior, repaired antenna, cup holder, LCD, removed and cleaned interior. and installed new tires and aligned front end. I have 159k on the car now. It is good to go far at least another 75k. Before you agree, get an estimate on the timing belt repair. While you are at it replace the water pump as well. JimA
  2. My guess they would offer 50% of retail or about $3k. It is too old of a car for them to sell on their lot so it would go to an auction house if you were to trade it in. I hope they offer you more.
  3. Great to hear about them if I ever need a replacement. Anyody have a good resource for the remote keys? I'm thinking of adding a remote lock.
  4. Getting to be a happy camper here. A couple of Friday's ago I repaired the LCD on my CC. A very satisfying repair, especially since I did it myself. This past weekend I finally gave in and ordered a new power antenna. It'll be here before the week is out. Then today my new driver side door handle was delivered. Once these two items are repaired I'll be pretty happy with the car. I still want to replace the old window tint or just remove it. It has turned purple with age and looks like crap. THen maybe new leather or even a fresh coat of paint. If I do all that it'll be good for another 100k w/maintenance.
  5. I inadvertently went 10k on the last fill with Mobil1 and KN oil filter. Car used .5 quarts of oil between the change.
  6. My MXV4s were pretty worn so I had a lot of high pitched whine with them. THey were like that when I bought the car so I don't know how they were when new. I bought mine from Tire Rack because nobody stocked them. I had them shipped to NTB who mounted them. The clerk there told me I should have brought the Tire Rack quote in and they would have beat the price. firestone told me they could have ordered the tires as well but they ticked me off after they set up an appointment to have the tires installed and when I showed up they didn't have them in stock and tried to sell me a different tire. I'm not really that picky on tires and am pretty happy with what I have. I almost never drive with the windows open so I don't get much noise anyway.
  7. My Harley has been sleeping for over a month now. It looks terrible up on the lift with the I-V attached (Battery tender). I put on a set of the Turanza LS-Vs about 6 weeks ago. Very smooth ride and whisper quiet. A bit of a softer ride than the MXV4s they replaced.
  8. Oil with water in it will look gray or milky once it has blended together. The colors you are seeing are normal.
  9. I'm getting ready to replace the front and rear struts on my 94 LS400. I've read the tutorials and many of the posts regarding the procedure. One common theme is that the struts should cost less than $60 each. I'm not finding that price anywhere. Have they more than doubled in price or am I looking in the wrong place. Anybody have the Toyota part number for these? Park Place Lexus online shows them at $144 each, not a pair but each. Napa is the cheapest so far at $109 each.
  10. 157k on my 94. I bought in in May hoping to get 50k out of it. Now I'm thinking it may be worth keeping around. I repaired the CC LCD on Friday and am amazed at how satisfying of a fix that was. I have a whole new outlook on the car. I may have to rethink the 50k goal to more like 100k. If that is the case I may opt for new leather seats and an upgraded stereo and possibly a new paint job. Runs great, no leaks and no fluid usage (other than washer fluid)
  11. I'd email them cancelling the order and then dispute the charge with the CC company. Buy elsewhere.
  12. I was looking at one of those myself for my 94 LS400. THe store clerk did say that I would have to use my spare key for some type of security feature.
  13. I've looked at the tutorial. This is actually not my first experience with a Toyota power antenna. I replaced the mast on my Celica some 10 years ago. The gears are bad on the one on my LS400. THat is why I am hoping somebody on the group has an old one that the relay went bad or some other defect except the gears so I can repair mine. I have more fun repairing existing things rather than replacing them. Thansk for the post!
  14. I appreciate the post and I know there are a bunch of aftermarket antennas to be had. But that is not what I am looking for. I want to play with mine and see if I can't get some more life out of it. I just need the gears. Everything else is fine.
  15. That you'd be willing to part with? When I bought my LS400 the mast was bent but you could hear the motor running. I bought a replacement mast but could never get it to go up or down. I took the unit aprt today and I believe the gears are bad. Of course you can't buy these individual parts so I am looking for somebody who may have one where the motor is dead. I don't care if it has a mast or not as I have a new one. I'd rather not go the aftermarket route except as a last resort. Willing to pay low dollar here. :whistles: Seriously. Let's talk.
  16. I replaced the LCD on my existing CC unit. I bought the LCD off of Ebay for @$120 shipped. There are 45 solder points to remove/install the new LCD. It takes time and patience, but not a whole heck of a lot of skill. Well worth doing.
  17. I had the day off today so I thought ahead and had everything ready to fix some annoying problems with my LS400. I started the day by replacing a couple of burnt out tailights and while I was at it I went ahead and replaced the license plate lights. then I moved on to the front. I replaced the headlights with Silverstar bulbs and eliminated the yellow glass on the foglights. One of the foglights was burnt out so I replaced it with a modified H3 bulb for $5 instead of waiting for my Toyota dealer to order one for me for $20. THe final big project was replacing the blacked out climate control LCD. This went much smoother than I expected it to. I read all the tutorials on the project and dove in. Everything went like butter and now I finally have a clear LCD. Not bad for a morning of tinkering. Maybe this afternoon I'll tear into my antenna. JimA
  18. Take a look at a "Battery Tender". It is a low amp trickle charger. You can leave your car on it for months at a time without worry of boiling the battery. My Harley is on one all winter.
  19. I bought my 94 LS400 this past May. At the time it had @143k on the clock. Here are the known issues at that time and what if anything was done: Cracked drivers side exterior door handle. (Now broken) Filthy interior (Interior removed and cleaned conditioned) Darkened climate control (No action taken) No keyless entry (No action taken) Worn tires (New tires 12/06) Badly cracked drivers seat Leather (Cleaned and conditioned but still worn) Bent/broken antenna mast. (New mast but still won't go up or down. Need to take apart) Broken cup holder (Ebay c/h for $10) Stock chrome wheels have seen better days. Left fog light out (still out) left side headlight shooting low. (No action taken) Poor paint match from previous front end damage repair. No doubt these are related to the light problems. Since then the A/C went out which was repaired for $915 and I have been getting intermittent C/E light. I've put 12k on the car had changed the oil not long after I bought the car. I finally had the opprtunity to change the oil after 10k since the last change. I know what you'll all say, that 10k is way to go on an oil change but I never had the opportunity to change it. I use Mobil1 full syn so I guess if I HAD to go 10k between changes at least I had the right oil in there. The car used 1/2 a quart in the 10k. Here's the reason for my post. I really love this car. It drives great and still looks pretty decent considering its' age. When I first bought it I was thinking I would have my money's worth out of it if I could get 50000 carefree miles out of it. I paid $4000 for it BTW. Now I am thinking I may want to keep it much longer. I have never been one to change out cars more than every 7-8 years. My old car I averaged 10k a year but I have already hit that number in 6 months with the Lex. I'm wondering if I do keep it, what issues should I address and which ones should I just live with. Part of my concern is the availability of parts in the future. I know there haven't been many issues to date, but what if some become harder and harder to get? Basically how much should I put into this car, if anything? I'd really like keyless entry but the $300 price from the dealer hurts. I know about the climate/clock fix as well and could do the repair myself if I had the time. Same with the door handle. Actually this issue WILL get fixed. It is too annoying not to address. THe car drives great and has no squeaks or noise issues. JimA
  20. I made an appointment for the Friday after Thanksgiving at a Firestone store to get a new set of LS-Vs for my LS400. I showed up early and talked to the manager. THe appointment was set up and verified online so I figured they had the tires and I would be good to go. Nope. No LS-Vs. THey had LS-Ts, I turned them down since they would be WW plus not the tire I researched and wanted. Week to ten days to order the Vs so I ordered them from TireRack and they'll be here Saturday. SHould have went with the Rack all along.
  21. Wouldn't you know it? It re-appeared just last night. I knew I was going to jinx myself by responding the way I did. JimA
  22. I never did. I ran some injector cleaner through the tank and it went away on its own. I haven't seen the code in quite some time now.
  23. THis past Monday I drove my 94 LS400 from KC to Sioux City and back. All told about 630 miles on a trip that started at 5:30 AM and ended at midnight. Any other car and I would have given up and gotten a motel room for the night rather than return home. I'm 6'1" and 230.
  24. Actually the $80 is to one of their certified installers. JimA
