  1. Mine was the same exact way, even when hot. I had to add about 8oz to get it to the full line. I dont know if its coincidence or not, but now the heater in the car seems to work better.
  2. This is a definately the best way to remove the tint. The steamer was about the cost of a tint removal job, but then I own it and can use it for other stuff as well. The cool thing is that if I know anyone else that needs theirs removed, I could probably make a little money removing it for others as well. So it will definately pay for itself.
  3. You might want to change the fluid yourself and be sure that there is Type IV fluid in there. There is a lot of debate over using DEXRON II as a replacement. If they took the car to one of those 10-minute places and got scammed into a tranny flush, it could have the wrong type of fluid in it.
  4. The gasket you referenced #35178-50010 is for the drain plug itself. Do you have a part number for the actual gasket around the pan? Also, I know with my Honda's before when you changed the oil they had a "crush" washer that needed replaced each time the oil drain plug was removed. Does anyone have a part number for this?
  5. I want to say thanks to everyone for all of the wonderful DIY info on this site. I have found it all to be very helpful and hopefully save myself some money doing some of these maintenance items myself. Plus when you do it yourself sometimes, you know it was done right. I was looking on the lexls.com site and was wondering if many of the procedures for the 1st generation LS the same as the second? I wanted to change my transmission fluid and filter, power steering fluid, and transmission mount and have found great write ups for those things. But wasnt sure if they were the same for my 95 or not. Can anyone lend me some advice? Thanks!
  6. I bought a commercial grade steamer made by Jiffy. It is the J2-W. Was about $150 but worked perfect, plus I can use it for steam cleaning other things and even taking the wrinkles out of suits and other clothes for work!
  7. My rear window was really hard to see out of because the tint was getting old and kind of cloudy looking. I used the steamer this morning and it came right off. Worked really well, no problems at all. All of the glue and tint came off in one shot. All of the defroster and antenna were salvaged and still work fine. What a relief, I was worried I was going to have to buy a new window if I screwed it up.
  8. I finally got my 95 LS400 from Arizona. It just arrived last night. Everything is perfect on it, the car literally looks like it is new. It drives like new as well. The Nakamichi sound system is the best i have heard. The car has about 80k on it right now, the only thing I could find wrong with it is that when you put it in reverse or drive the car kind of lurches foward or backwards. Its a very smooth shift, when driving everything is very smooth and quiet. No vibrations at all. Is this probably just the famous motor and transmission mounts getting soft?
  9. These are definately probably some of the best made cars in the world. That price seems fair even if you have to put some money into the car for repairs and finance them with a credit card or something over time. The great thing about the car you are looking at is that the price you are being offered is low enough that if you had some work done on it and kept it in good shape you can probably sell it again for what you paid for it. Its hard to find a decent car, reguardless of mileage, for that kind of money. I searched for a winter car and luckily ran across a really good deal, but those are far and few between.
  10. I looked on Tire Rack website and they dont offer a WS-50 tire in the stock size for the 95 LS. I have heard great things about Nokian tires as well. Anyone tried the Michellan X-Ice yet?
  11. You arent supposed to put the line in the can and suck it up that way, you slowly pour it in the line with it running and it more or less "sips" it.
  12. My Lexus dealer offers the intake, throttle body, and carbon cleaning service as part of their 90,000 miles service regimen. I don’t know what products they use, but I cant imagine they would be removing carbon and deposits from the engine if it were harmful towards its service life.
  13. I found a really nice set of Lexus mats with the logo and everything on them for the 430 but cant find one for my 95 LS400. Will the ones for the 430 fit my car?
  14. Often times when you lose power gradually you wont notice it. If it were a big and sudden change then it would be more apparent. I think the point that these other guys are making is that they didnt realize how much of a differance these products made until they actually used them. It may or may not be an issue of longevity, I am not a mechanic and do not know. I can attest, however, from my own usage that using some of these products has never harmed anything and has seemly helped. But then again, I dont have a car with 400k + on it
  15. I have used it before in the fuel tank, intake and oil. Works pretty well. I wouldnt use it too often, but maybe once a year or so as part of a ritual cleaning. Definately produces a lot of smoke when used through the intake.
  16. As many of you have been following my posts, I have been in search of an LS400 for months now. I finally found the perfect one, it was in Arizona at Lexus of Tucson. Its being shipped right now from AZ to PA, however, the previous owner had tinted the windows. The state of Pennsylvania does not allow for window tint and since the car has to pass an annual safety inspection I must remove the tint when the car gets here. What is the safest way to do this? I have a Jiffy steamer already and I was reading that steam works very well for removing tint, is this the best way? Any tips? Thanks guys!
  17. That sounds like a great deal to me, the Lexus dealer quoted me $1400 for the same work. But they also "visually inspect" everything else on the car looking for other items to replace and make money on.
  18. Yeah I am hoping that if I stay up with the maintenance, I will be able to keep it for a long time. I have always loved the design of this car, I cant wait to actually own it.
  19. Welcome to Lexus Owners Club! My 1992 LS is the same color as yours. It looks amazing when clean. I think Beige is the best of both worlds, it doesn't show too much dirt, yet it shines rather nicely. Give it a few coats of polish and wax every few months and it will look good for years to come. My 05 LS430 is blue, looks great when clean, but a major pain to keep looking nice. What exactly are they doing for $1400 for the 90K? I got mine done for $1000..Ask a few Lexus dealers and shop around, you'll find that their prices are negotiable to some extent. -Sam Here is the email I got from the dealer who quoted that price: Good morning and thank you very much for you email. The 90,000 mile service would include changing the engine oil and filter performing a tire rotation and computer balance performing a brake inspection topping off all fluid levels setting tire pressures checking all lights electrical and suspension parts changing the engine coolant and brake fluid along with changing the engine air filter. Also we do change the timing belt water pump and there are some hydraulic pulleys as well. The price of this service runs $1404.00+tax and if you have any questions I can be reached at the phone number below or by email. Thank you. Another dealer quoted more money, but they also changed the plugs etc. THE 90K SERVICE EST $641.00+TAX AND SHOP SUPPLIES (INCLUDES: ENGINE OIL/FILTER CHANGE, ENGINE OIL FLUSH, REPLACE COOLANT, REPLACE BRAKE FLUID, REPLACE ENGINE SPARK PLUGS, ENGINE AIR FILTER AND WIPER INSERTS. ADD FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER AND ENGINE COMBUSTION CHAMBER CLEANER. MULTI-POINT INSPECTION AND TIRE ROTATION). THE ENGINE TIMING BELT/WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT EST $1017.00+TAX AND SHOP SUPPLIES. LET US KNOW IF WE CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE.
  20. I too love the color. It has really grown on me. At first I didnt like it so much, but now the more I look at it the more I like it. I feel bad buying the car and bringing it up here to all of our salt and freezing weather. Hopefully it will make the adjustment ok. My 90 Camry has faired very well, but the most important part to keeping a car for a long time and keeping a good resale on it is keeping it clean. A car could have 250k on it but if it still looks like new, people will assume that it was well taken care of mechanically as well.
  21. They already faxed me over the cars service history. Everything has been done at Lexus dealers, it just had the 75k service done to it as well. I dont put many miles on per year, so I figure probably in the next 1.5-2 years I will have the 90k service done as well. The closest Lexus dealer quoted me about $1400 for the complete service, but that also includes a loaner car for the time while mine would getting serviced.
  22. Here are some pics that the dealer sent to me:
  23. Just wondering, why did you not buy the car? Was it the price?
  24. Sure is. Is that a good thing or bad? I just drove it last week and tried to buy it from them! Just ironic how small a world this is! Don't worry at all.......it's a very nice car. Hopefully you got a good deal. Mike Haha that is amazing. I am glad to hear you say it is a very nice car, gives me confidence since I wasnt actually able to go see it myself. I have pictures of it from the dealer, I hope it looks as good in person.
  25. Sure is. Is that a good thing or bad?
