  1. steering wheel swaps are usually avoided as well as the air bags are not interchangable.

I did read of one thread where they did swap wheels but opted to deactivate/omit the airbag. (poor decision in my opinion).

I DON"T want to de-activate the bag! I love the looks of the wooden type wheels however! Did the Es in 95 come with a wooden type wheel?

I think the wooden type wheels on an ES were started on the 2002 model year.

Actually they were started in 1999 as a added option.

  2. My Uncles ABS light has been on for about 1 year and his front brakes lock up sometimes, he replaced the fluids and replace his rotors and brake pads, but its still keep locking on him. When his brakes lock on him, he has to pull the negative off his battery off so they release. Does anyone have any clue what it could be. Thanks

  3. There are a couple instrument panel bulbs which are out on my 96 ES300. I did a search on here, and found the right link on replacing the EIKO #8640 bulbs ... but they didn't say where to get them. Is this an auto parts store item, or do we have to order them from somewhere online?

Thanks, hope all my Lexbuds have a safe holiday!

Try pepboys they usually carry that size bulb.

  4. I really don't know, but the ES isn't a power vehicle. In feature content, ride and smoothness, and material quality the ES is far superior to the TL.

Most definitly, my buddy of mine has a 07 TL and its doesnt compare to the ES350 in material quality and smoothness. The TL has a sporty ride to it and definitly weights alot less so thats why its seems to be faster. But the ES (executive sedan) was not designed to be a speed car.

  5. I just fixed my door today. (It would not open from the outside.)

It required me removing the interior trim. I was very cautious while doing this.

Now, when I hit my lock button on my key, the doors lock - unlock - and then lock again finally making the beep noise. It will not however unlock using the key button. I can lock it fine from the inside and use the key to manually unlock it on passenger side. Is there something I should go back into my door and look for?

    If so what is it?

    Thanx

Your key needs a new battery, get it from radio shack for about 3 dollars

  6. All I want to do is give it this one treatment man thats all, I just need to know how long after the seafoam treatment should I keep the cheap oil in my engine before I put in the good oil?

Yes, you seafoam and then run, then dump. Then I would install some cheap dino oil and run for a few hundred miles. Then dump and install some good synthetic oil.

The reason for (2) dino cheap drains is to clean the "junk" out before installing the good stuff. I would also just use a cheap filter on dino #2.

    Hope this helps.

**PS. I know you might think I PIMP LC20 but it will help the seals if you need it.Just trying to help ya since oil is not a "one call does it all". LOL

Im still knd of new to this what DINO OIL?

  7. <in all modesty> I single handidly brought seafoam from the toyota truck guys to the toyota car guys.

    It's use runs rampant.

Im going to use seafoam on my engine and follow toysrme's tutorial on flushing with seafoam. Now can I add seafoam in my engine right before I change the oil and change the oil after I use it. Should I use expensive oil or cheap oil first?

cheap, as log as its SAE certified.

Now how long should I keep that oil in the car before I put in the good stuff?

  9. Whats the best way to flush my engine to my 96 ES300 with 86000 miles on it, because I opened the oil cap the other day and it was filled which looked like some sludge. Drives great and all but I would like to get all that junk out of there and prolong my engine life. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

  10. Hi guys just wanted to see how much we have bought our lovely ES300 for

lets start from me i had a 94 es300 which was in excellent condition and i had it for a year i got it for $6000 ,110Kmiles and sold it 5500$,121Kmiles i did maintain it well flushed transmission and changed spark plugs.

i bought a 1999 ES300 a month ago it has 110K miles for 7600$ it has had a 90K service at lexus and i flushed the transmission and fluids also cleaned the throthle body. Shes doin fine for now and i love it sooooo much

    lemme know your story

    thanks

I bought my 1996 ES300 for $5500 with 80,000 miles and it is in prestine conditions, also did the 90K service at Lexus.

  11. Hi all, I just purchased my very first Lexus yesterday from my father. I've had my eye on this car since he bought it new, and he's quite probably the most religious maintainer of vehicles in the world (except some of you obviously talented and devoted individuals). It's got 147K miles on the body, and after a freak engine seizure years ago at 45k miles the engine was replaced by the dealer a mere 500 miles from the end of warranty. Dad's a lucky man. :)

Anyways, the car is in excellent shape, but I have two problems with it. (1) the gauge needles are shot, but I'm looking into LexTech's service on those. (2) the suspension is very noisy and harsh-riding compared to what I remember it being new. I would like to completely restore the suspension to re-establish that dreamy ride quality and quietness that I know this car should have.

I've searched these forums, and am trying to compile all the suggestions into one shopping list of things to check and replace. I'm not very mechanically inclined, although I did manage to rebuild an old Bug engine in high school 15 years ago ... god I'm getting up there in age. Anyways, what I know about suspensions could fit on an index card with a font large enough for my half-blind grandma to read.

    Symptoms:

    1. Low "creaking" noise from the rear suspension on large bumps, like those giant speedbumps sprouting up everywhere. Can also detect this noise if I physically push up and down on the tail of the car and get her bouncing.

    2. In the front, every little bump is audible. It kind of sounds like "tire slap" or something most of the time, with short, high-pitched staccato noises combined with "thuds". You know that sound when you're flying on a freeway overpass at 80mph, and you are rolling over those deep grooves between sections of concrete? That's what I hear on every bump, speed seems irrelevant. There are also creaking noises during larger spring travels.

    3. With some road irregularities, like shallow potholes and so forth, I can feel them in the steering wheel. Sometimes it's just a little jab to the wheel, other times at parking lot speed it will actually pull the wheel in either direction slightly. To me, it seems that a torquing force on the tire is being relayed to the steering wheel too much.

Would anyone be willing to provide a thorough list of things I could have a qualified mechanic check? And what would you rate the difficulty in DIY replacement of these items? I'm not afraid to get in there and learn to do it, but I have no knowledge on suspension components. Also, what special tools are required to work with suspensions?

Thanks for any replies and recommendations. I've already learned a TON of stuff about my car by reading here.

    LexiN00b

    1. That low creaking noise is your rear stabalizer bushings and theres two of them to replace very inexpensive parts.

2.That thumping noise could be three things, one it could that you need to replace your struts mounts, two the strut bumps that are right above the strut pole surrounded by your springs needs grease, three you need new struts.

3.That steering wheel problem is you inner tie rods.

  12. Hello again, another newbie Lexus question

Is it possible to put a 92-96 Manual 3VZ-FE engine in a Automatic 95 ES300. I'm familiar with Honda swaps, but does anyone know if I will need new engine mounts or will the 3VZ-FE be a direct bolt on? Also, will the wires/ECU be direct bolt/snap ons? I know I will need to maybe get shift boots and cover but I can junk a camry for the parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You dont want to put a 3vz-fe in cause they are notorious to overheating. So my advice would be to put a 1mz-fe in there.

  13. Well, that's a tough question. As I recalled, the 2000 ES airbag doesn't have leads come out of it. So, you need to make modification on the connection. I think you can use the old module, one thing for sure is that it won't pop, but will it pop in case of accident... who knows. The module is simply a detonator, it sends a power signal to "fire" the airbag. Once power is detected, the airbag pops. Dealership simply uses battery voltage to pop the airbag when they do recall on the airbag and destroy it. So, the airbag is nothing fancy, my main concern would be the connection between the airbag and the steering column. I hope this info is some what useful.

OK so the airbag wont go OFF on my face when I install it? But the connection might a little different, so I might have to modify it to work.

  14. Lets say that safety isn't my concern could I put my current airbag on that 2000 ES300 Steering wheel and will it sit flush with it just wont work if I was in a accident.

No, it won't fit the steering wheels are entirely a different shape.

The wheel will bolt up, but you need an airbag from that year or span of years (98-01) to make it work.

OK I found the airbag for a 100 bucks but I was wondering if I need the airbag module as well or can I use my current airbag module on my 96ES300

  15. So I have to buy a 2000 ES Air bag with the wheel to get it to work

Yep. Unfortunately. I don't know what's your preference is, but new air bag is kind of pricey. You might want to get a used one if safety is not your main concern.

Lets say that safety isn't my concern could I put my current airbag on that 2000 ES300 Steering wheel and will it sit flush with it just wont work if I was in a accident.

  16. It will fit your ES. I used to have a 92' ES and I installed a 98' LS 400 steering wheel on it. All Lexus/Toyota vehicles use the same spline size.

No, your air bag from the 96 will not fit, they are unique. But you can "move" your old cruise control switch to the new steering wheel.

Godfather18 is right, the air bag might not work properly either since the new generation air bag is different, but you can still hook up the wires so that the air bag light would turn off. At least I did it on mine with no problem.

So I have to buy a 2000 ES Air bag with the wheel to get it to work
