  1. Looks like the link in the sticky isn't working. I can e-mail it to you--it's an 18 MB file. Since you are a new member, you can't send or receive PM so post an e-mail address here where you can receive large files
  2. Setting the auto door locking and unlocking functions You can set the following auto door locking and unlocking functions. ( a ) Locking linked with the shift position All the doors are locked automatically when the selector lever is moved out of the “P” position with the ignition switch in the “ON” position.* NOTE: * This function is the default setting for new vehicles. ( b ) Unlocking linked with the shift position All the doors are automatically unlocked when the selector lever is moved to the “P” position with the ignition switch in the “ON” position. ( c ) Locking linked with the vehicle speed All the doors are locked automatically at 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher vehicle speed. However, if any door is unlocked during driving, this auto locking function does not operate until the unlocked door is once opened. ( d ) Unlocking linked with opening the driver’s door All the doors are automatically unlocked when the driver’s door is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned from “ON” to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position. Setting the functions 1. Close all the doors. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position. 3. Within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position; -- To set function ( a ) Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in the “P” position. -- To set function ( b ) Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in the “P” position. -- To set function ( c ) Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in any position except “P”. -- To set function ( d ) Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in any position except “P”. All the doors are automatically locked and unlocked when you release the power door lock switch. This indicates the function is set. If all the doors are not locked and unlocked, the time the switch was held may have been too short or too long. Repeat the procedure from step 1. If you want to cancel the function, perform the same procedure once again. Each time you perform the procedure, the function is set and cancelled alternately.
  3. 97K is nothing. Sold my 97 ES300 couple months ago with 160K miles and it still ran like new Just make sure the oil has been changed regularly and get the old receipts from the owner
  4. I can't send you a PM--probably because you are a new member--but to answer your question: It is free-air. I believe it's 8 inches. I looked to see if there was any label under it with all the specifications, but couldn't find any.
  5. It seems like they are implying that the sensor is working but the computer is not reading the sensor properly. Did he say what the next step is? Do they want to replace the computer? I have never heard of a similar problem before--hopefully someone else can chime in.
  6. ekarof, I just noticed this too after reading your post. It is supposed to restart at 0:00--but it doesn't on my car either. This is straight from the manual: Driving time (“E/T”) The elapsed time after the engine starts is displayed. When the engine is started, driving time is counted from 0:00. Up to 99:59 (99 hours, 59 minutes) can be displayed. When the driving time exceeds 99:59, the counter returns to 0:00. To reset the calculations, push the “RESET” button.
  7. I am having the same "jarring sound" problem with mine. Did a visual check and the cone doesn't have any nicks cuts etc in it. Rajesh, were you able to find one? A new one costs $330! I will buy a used one in good condition if anyone wants to sell at a fair price
  8. 35% That is also the legal % in Maryland. You can't get a darker tint than that by law. Even though it's rare that you will be pulled over just for illegally dark windows, it does happen.
  9. Did you hear back from the service person from Lexus?
  10. Mileage is better on the 2001 because of smaller/lighter body. I had a 97 and got better mileage than my '02. Currently on my '02 I am getting ~23 with 70% city 30% hwy driving
  11. I'll check a second time, but yes, I believe I do Try this. With the key in the ignition in ON position, pull UP the rear window switch and HOLD for 8-12 seconds in the up position. After 8-12 seconds, you will hear a click. At this time, release the switch and turn the key to off position. Wait 5 minutes and then start the car and see if the window is working. If this doesn't work, repeat the above but this time holding the switch in the DOWN position instead of UP for 8-12 seconds. This is based on my own observations when both of my rear windows stopped working. May or may not work for you. The rear windows are quirky. I haven't found the official Lexus recommended way to reset them yet. I am dealing with a different problem on mine: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showuser=22158
  12. Did it come on after a fill-up? If so there is a big chance that it was due to the gas cap.
  13. When you press the window switch, do you hear a click?
  14. There are no clicks when opening the gas cap, only when closing it. You can disconnect the battery and re-connect after an hour or so to reset the light and see if it comes on again. If it does, take it to an AutoZone and they will read the code for free and let you know what the problem is.
  15. I remember seeing a how-to on this here or on CL. Here is what a quick search returned: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272735 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=33131 http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217411
  16. M-I-K-E you might be interested in this thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=7149 Tried PM'ing you but I guess brand new members can't receive or send PMs.
  17. I was quoted $600 for both the valve cover gaskets for my 97 ES300 about a year ago. This was from an independent Lexus repair shop.
  18. Does anyone have any experience with this: http://www.mdwholesale.com/ I can't remember where I read about them--maybe here or some magazine--but apparently they have a patent regarding headlight restoration. Just wondering if anyone here has tried it and what were the results.
  19. I had the same problem with my 97 ES300. The remote would work intermittently. I did not have any problem locking or unlocking the doors using the interior door switches though.... Unfortunately, I did not find any solution to my remote problem. It would work 1 out of 10 times when pressed. I did notice that pressing the unlock button along one corner of the remote made it work better than pressing the entire button. So my conclusion was that over time the switches inside the remote get corroded etc. I was ready to buy a new one on eBay--but then I sold my car and got an 02 ES <_< Couple of things that I thought I should let you know: 1) About FM radio at 94.9: You have to do this in another car or a radio at home because the remote operation is disabled when you put in the key and turn it to ACC (for radio operation) in your own car. 2) About: "turn-knob under the steering wheel to ensure the remote feature was on"--That knob is only for the 'beep' volume control. It does not turn on or off the remote operation.
  20. Sorry to hear about the accident....and glad you are OK. Don't worry about the Lexi....hopefully you will be able to replace it with a better one!
  21. It sounds like a transmission problem--can you feel it up-shift through all the gears as you are speeding?
  22. I had the Nakamichi in my 97, and to be honest, it left a lot to be desired. But you can always upgrade the stereo--don't base your car-buying decision on it. Go with the Lexus--you will be very happy. It is a very reliable, luxurious car. Camry is reliable too, but won't get you the same respect as a Lexus would ;) Not being materialistic here, just realistic. Whenever one of my friends saw the Lexus, their reaction was "Oh wow you drive a Lexus". Even though it was 10 years old, it got more reaction out of people than a brand new Camry.
  23. I recently got the ALLDATAdiy subscription and thought I would pass on some useful info I have found, along with Lexus part numbers of common maintenance items. 1) If you are experiencing pulsation / vibration in the brake pedal, make sure you are using the matching set of rotors and brake pads as stated in the TSB. Updated rotor part #: 43512-48011 Update brake pads part #: 04465-33280 Anti-squeal shim kit part #: 04945-33070 Do not mix and match old rotors and pads--it will cause warped rotors again. Reference: TSB BR002R-02 Brakes - Front Brakes Vibrate 2) If your AC is not cooling and AC Light is blinking, make sure you have the latest Magnetic Clutch Relay. This is also the solution if your AC works intermittently and the light flashes sometimes. Old relay part #: 90987-02022 New relay part #: 90987-02028 Reference: TSB EL009-05 A/C - Inoperative/A/C Light Flashing 3) Cabin Filter part #: 87139-YZZ05 4) Air filter part #: 17801-0H010 5) Oil filter part #: 90915-YZZD1 6) Oil drain plug gasket part #: 90430-12031 I have found the following sources to be reputable and inexpensive to obtain OEM Lexus parts: 1) Lexus of Pembroke Pines (Cheapest, NO free shipping). Ordered from them 05/30, got parts 06/03 http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...amp;catalogid=0 2) Park Place Lexus (Prices close to Pembroke Pines, FREE shipping over $100). Ordered from them in the past for my 97 ES300. Great experience. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...m?siteid=213808 3) Toyota of Dallas. Ordered from them 05/28, got parts 06/02 http://www.toyotapartsales.com/ I discovered that when searching for parts on all these sites, part number search often doesn't work unless you go through the home page and put the part number in option 2 "Search by Factory Part Number". Keyword search didn't work for me at all.
  24. Sorry to mix threads again--but the NAV/CD problem has been resolved and it was unrelated to this issue. Still having the window problem. I read somewhere that if you roll down the window and then hold the switch for 8 seconds, then roll it up fully and hold for 8 seconds, it resets the pinch protection. I tried and it didn't work. Someone with access to FSM for the 2002 ES300, can you see if they have the reset procedure in there?
