  1. I bought Denso rubber twice (same as Lexus use - OEM) to install on the still like new metal and nothing less than perfect and cheap compared to what Lexus want and they do not want to sell just the rubber they want to sell the whole package making production of more metal needed for no reason except for greed: https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_nkw=windshield+wiper+rubber&selvel=Make%3ALexus%2CModel%3AES%2CYear%3A2007%2CPlatform%3AACV4%2C%20GSV4%2CType%3A3.5%2CEngine%3A3456%20ccm%2C%20204%20KW%2C%20277%20PS&selcontext=productType%3ACAR_AND_TRUCK%2CpartType%3APARTS%2CqueryType%3ABY_VEHICLE Just like original.
  2. Good that still functioning cars do not end as landfill. It would be good though if you get the car running the way it was supposed to; that way you will not have to be lucky to pass the next test. Enjoy riding a luxury car.
  3. Hi in Sweden, You may have problems with motor vehicle inspection in "Trafikstyrelsen" as the car possibly will not meet emission test requirements. Also, it may use a bit more gasoline than needed. If you do not get any solutions here you could try the UK site as many LS400 are running there. Is it possible to find parking spaces for such a big car in Sweden. Here in Spain, they all seem to be made to Fiat 500 (old model) and Renault 4?
  4. Not energy from the moon as it circles around above us, but still from water. Hope they get it going in larger size as solar cells and wind-mills are absolutely not good things. https://www.weptos.com/
  5. I believe that Toyota will concentrate on having one brand name as preferred for obvious reasons. Luxury cars are in a niche market and clients are not as much as in old days staying with same brand. Another thing is that whenever a brand-new model or a model that has been very much changed so it no longer is a facelift is introduced, first model issues are rather normal and will be ironed out with first or next facelift. The CT 2010 - 2011 were no way perfect, but after 2 facelifts they now seems bullet-proofed. We had a Supra 3L Targa with new engine and a lot of other things and it was a disaster. Take off the top (roof) and it could not keep driving a straight line and whenever speed was above 150 km/h (not that fast for this kind of car) yellow engine light told us to go to nearest Toyota. Unfortunately, the car was so new that Toyota had not yet manuals for the model in the 3 Toyota garages we visited (one in Spain, one in Germany and one in Denmark) and could not help with the engine problem. If / when Toyota had the engine problem solved. I do not know as we went back to Nissan ZX that were 10 times better. Have had both a 280 ZX and a 300 ZX. The CT 2017 is doing just what it should and only need normal service to be driving just like when new. First facelift and second facelift have made the car reliable.
  6. 60K seems like the correct distance; so And, what is age if not just ciphers on a piece of paper. If I am asked about my age the answer is 25; has been that a long time. Same question, same answer.
  7. Is that another way to say that we would like to sell belts as often as possible, but it has nothing with age, only driven distance?
  8. Maybe Lexus is a dying niche product. Toyota is what they are branding here. Have had 3 Toyotas and only one of them was a disaster. The first generation MR2 was a splendid toy. The Supra Targa 1985 was a disaster, whenever driving faster than 150 km/h engine warning lamp did show its ugly yellow face and no place in Europe they did know what to with that, they did not yet have the manuals for the car. Take off the top of the Supra and it was shaking and trembling and it was a rocking chair if there was just a micro uneven part on the pavement. Have had a Nissan ZX280 and also a ZX300 and both of these were driving just as firm and fine with as without roof parts mounted. 10 times the cars compared with the Supra. A MR2 Spyder was a fun car we bought when we moved to summer land. Lexus here is now Toyota and they are selling only Toyota where they service Lexus. Cheaper to make only one brand. Nissans luxury brand is also disappearing.
  9. Lexus is stupid getting dissatisfied customers this way, but it is possible just not to buy a car with only one key. Not selling cars would probably be a wakeup call for Lexus.
  10. Would this be what Lexus cannot get hold on? The manual key needs to be cut (copied from the one you have) by a pro and programming it to the car should be possible; if Lexus want to, they can. But maybe the car you have is having different frequency. Seller may be able to inform you. That Lexus is selling cars without 2 keys is impossible to understand and the excuse is nothing but a bad excuse. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314638785312?hash=item4941eedb20:g:N9kAAOSwUlhkgvje&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8IMux5vIDiNyMzi5yeG%2FDRLELf%2BWkIp31rUWERThloLL4AePYfkSx5H3TD3qkACv8iODjDkBTvnZ17ef6M9bKEdnDodED7aJCSrdYLTrXV6Lfvm3CJoHh%2FQEfGRjMVA9bpetKUYi5Iuo7ol8V8rYLevztuWKXidglm7ig62mNdVpGWd93GQqWEpLIUo2WzMUwbOsgGKnJW85G18tUxRU3qTk5nkJHGjpdEURHdi2lRJqovQwgYEhQvUrOWb40Ln5n%2FSBxWU3KvLr7LyqbDSkUd%2FzFYg8mqH4no%2ByeFOa1nIWep%2B47Uy7OLu5ebF64EQ1%2FQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM2tS07NNi
  11. As far as I understand it, the 12V battery is only starting the computer that will activate the hybrid battery. The hybrid battery will then crank and start the combustion engine. Hope it is just the 12V battery that is losing power and not starting the computer correct. If local Lexus/Toyota wants a new customer maybe they will let you have them control the hybrid battery and give one more year warranty on it but that might mean that you will let them service the car.
  12. Our little battery is now 7 year and still no problem, brand unknown, OEM and have never bothered to look as it is still OK. Have only one car so we use it 3 - 7 times a week. As far as I can figure most hybrid batteries last 20 years or more, otherwise Lexus would not warranty them for 15 years if having the car serviced with Lexus yearly.
  13. Many helpful new things are making the driver less alert and some cars are so nice and comfortable that it can make the driver sleepy. In the name of progress, we are no longer needed to drive cars as they can drive by themselves. Brave new world.
  14. The only extended service or warranty I find reasonable is for the hybrid battery. Not that the hybrid battery is usually failing before the 15 years the warranty that is offered when car is serviced with Lexus, but when service is needed once yearly with new oil etc. anyway, the extra price paid to have Lexus do it compared with a cheaper place is acceptable, as with Lexus OEM parts are probably used and also the correct oil, so Lexus has our car as service customer till 2031 if we keep it that long. Could be we are lucky and hydrogen will be available here before that, as that would be a reason to get a new car.
  15. The SC is a beautiful car and it is good that owners look after them. And nothing last forever so all the things that need to be replaced should be that. I believe that most of the brand cars can last a long time if being maintained. My favourites Honda, Lexus, Nissan (alphabetically mentioned) never had problems with any of these (3 Hondas, 3 Nissans and only 1 Lexus). The one I liked most is a draw between Honda Coupé and Nissan 280ZX. Enjoy your SC.
  16. When I was still in car business (ended 2004 was in an engineering company consulting car importers) no such thing as production time on timing belts or their boxes from Toyota, Volvo & VW group.
  17. Some rubber, not all. I had Raicle mountain boots. Lasted 15 years, no problem with the rubber on them. No longer climbing mountains so gave them away; think they are still good. Also still have a pair of Jaco Form shoes since 1990 I think, no I do not use them daily. No problem with rubber on them, still supple where a pair of Ecco shoes bought same time lasted only 5 - 7 years before rubber did break and they were not used that much either. Look at old tyres and if they have always had same side out, they most like are in worse condition on the side that is exposed to UV. And to repeat first I wrote on this: I do not say do not change timing belt. Just say that I have never heard of any spare part seller that throw out timing belts because they have been stored a long time. MB did not have timing belts they had a chain like on motor bikes and when serviced correct they lasted mostly longer than the rest of the car.
  18. UV is hard on more than our skin. Outside of tyres are more damaged than inside, because of that. Truck drivers with arms out open windows are more in danger to get skin cancer on that arm. I have Llumar protection on all windows even the sun roof. https://llumar.com/emea/en/automotive/window-tint/
  19. Maybe Lexus has found out that the built-in from Lexus is not nearly as good as what smartphones deliver for free. The CT has Lexus navigation, but not worth using.
  20. Do not use the built-in navigation. It is crab. Takes 10 times longer to enter address than google maps on phone. Smartphone GPS is far more up to date. For free. Where Lexus charge and arm and white of the eyes just to update it.
  21. I am not going to tell anybody not to change the belt, but I believe it is something that needs to be done due to how many kilometres / miles it has been driven. Have been in car business (educated with MB and later Volvo) and have seen timing belts changed and that is a good business. One thing that is strange when it come to how often a timing belt must be changed is that on the little boxes the belts are in, I have never seen when they were made, which can be a bit of a problem if they are supposed to be changed when they are say 6 years old. The materials belts are made of will be worn as everything that is used, but just like helmets that are supposed to be changed when they are 5 years old as the materials, they are made of will not protecting as well as when new due to UV rays etc. If that helmet had been in a box and never have seen UV it will still be new after 20 years. Could be the same with timing belts. Anyway, no car company would throw a timing belt out when it has a 6-year birthday. Why is day of production not mentioned on the belt? Or on the package it come in?
  22. When reading about California some positive and also some negative things seem to be actually both rather disturbing. That Tesla no longer is having headquarter there is positive as Tesla is one of the worst polluters in the world. Another rather positive is that hydrogen is many places available in California and though it still is not completely made from really reusable sources it still is a lot less polluting than the battery powered cars that from beginning to end are much more polluting than the gasoline powered engines in already existing cars both hybrids and conventional. Is hydrogen expensive and are fuel cell cars common? Have read both yes and no to that question. Among the negatives I have read is that people living there are taxed more than other places in the US and that more people are leaving the sunshine state, no longer wishing to live there, than people are coming in. People are living in tents and garbage piles inside the city and criminality is on the rise more than ever. I know that it is not always correct what is written so I ask you as living there, you must know what is right or wrong, at least the place where you live.
  23. Ever since a group in a university in California found out an efficient way to split clean or dirty water and get hydrogen just using heat a lot of nuclear plants started to find out that the reactors, they need to cool down can be used to make hydrogen and that way reduce a lot of what they spend on cooling reactors down and at the same time are making fuel that can be sold. Is that a win – win combination? I believe that in a few years H2 can possibly be cheaper than other fuels. Not that I like the left over from nuclear plants that take about 10K years or more to get neutralized but they are making electricity many places in the world and they do not shut down at night when less electricity is needed so that would also split water and make fuel. Just like in Norway long ago, electricity was so cheap 12 hours at night, that it could be called free - it can be possible to make hydrogen that cost so little that only transporting of it would be something to pay for.
