  1. Probably the least known light on a Lexus. Low oil LEVEL shows an yellow oil can. Low oil PRESSURE shows a red oil can and I'll bet buzzers and warnings.
  2. As brakes wear, the pad linings become harder and the rotor becomes smoother. Creaking is a symptom of parts not being new. Most people included our beloved Lexus service techs are terrible at cleaning and lubricating the caliper slide pins. Others leave off the Shim pads and wishbone springs, seen both. Of course I have zero trust in Lexus dealership service departments. Find a Toyota dealership NOT owned by the same people that own your Lexus dealership and take it there for service. You might find the best way to solve the braking issue is just to replace the pads, and have the rotors either turned or replaced. Calipers hardly ever go bad except failing to lubricate the slide pins which can cause them to hang up. A common Nissan 50,000 mile issue. One of the benefits of replacing pads at half-life is less wear on the rotors and smoother braking. Letting pads go to the end of their life causes the caliper boots to expand all the way out increasing the possibility that they will hang up when retracted. Not sure of weather in Oregon but I think there is a lot of moisture there which also contributes to creaking as a light coating of rust can form on the rotors after being wet. Hope this helps some Denny
  3. Like Paul, certainly not for me. Of course if they used a Lexus for a cop car, it would look pretty cool with blue lights in there.
  4. Is a 2006 GS a 300 or a 330?
  5. Every time I've ever removed a headliner it involved removing the seats. Never did an SUV though. Time to break out a hose, a friend and a flashlight. Has any of the glass on the car ever been replaced?
  6. Wow, be glad it was non-interference engine. Better be glad it's summer in Massachusetts. Last winter was a bear.
  7. it is not true. If you do not have a facebook account, you can't see anything. Walled garden I believe they call it. Either way, I am sorry I can't make it to the Colorado meet. My niece lives in Denver so I'll wait until the winter to come out.
  8. Sounds like a heater core failure. They leak onto the passenger floor and spread. I can't see how an '06 could leak but stranger things have happened.
  9. or best a Limited model, really sweet.
  10. Is the Avalon an LE or XLE model? and color of course.
  11. Well Jim, looks like maybe a tad more than a flesh wound. Repairable of course but still probably $7-$8K to fix. Looks like the striking vehicle was moving at a good clip on what appears to be a tranquil residential street. Over the years, we have had several vehicles struck in our quiet residential street. And yes, in every case, alcohol was involved. Good luck with this mess as I'm sure you are left with a healthy deductible to pay. Hate people like that.
  12. There is an Micro SD chip installed in the dash which has that data. You can remove it like from a camera and that is where the map data is stored (from what I've read).
  13. I would suspect the fuel pump. Very uncommon in Lexus to fail however if the car was always driven with the fuel tank close to empty, it is very suspect. Never seen many Toyota fuel pumps go south so don't know the symptoms but with GM's, they sputter, are slow to start, then quit. Usually on the Jersey Turnpike from my experience.
  14. Uh oh. What is the deal with the Maryland tint? My daughter has 2 of my cars in Baltimore both tinted with Virginia legal. Love to hear more about MDBS.
  15. Ahh, just terrible BUT, let's focus on the positive. My very good friend works at another Toyota place SO, everything is well taken care of for my race car. Life has many turns and luckily, I take very good care of my people and they take very good care of me. Not points, no nothing like that, just friends taking care of friends and I am very lucky to have a bunch. The dealership here is just horrible. You know me and I would bend over backwards to promote them and even offer driver/owner clinics which was something I was actually considering because I make a tremendous effort to be nice. Of course after several total failures on their part I am now a total AH to them. California is obviously more competitive. Here is my Yelp Review Took my Lexus to the dealer where I purchased the car for it's first oil change. I was rather suspicious as it appeared my car was never moved but after an hour the service guy came and said all done so I blamed coincidence. Drove home and was still suspicious because of previous isues with this same dealer. Checked my oil and it was dirty. They NEVER changed my oil so apparently they looked at my car for an hour then said it was "all set." If you own a Lexus and take your car to this dealer, do not expect them to do what you ask. The ONLY thing I asked for was an oil change. NO washing, no nothing except the oil change. Of course I called and was apologized to over and over but I know from the past that their apologies are hallow. And of course they offered to change the oil if I brought the car back. Would you trust them with your car after that? Nope, took it to another dealership and had it done. Free ain't worth it if they don't do anything. They used the excuse that I wasn't clear but when tracing it down the failure was on the part of the phone scheduler AND the service writer both of whom I clearly stated several times I WANT MY OIL CHANGED.. They are lucky they don't work for me. IF the owner is really a real person I can't believe he would let his Lexus dealership be run in such an unprofessional and incompetent manner. To sum it up, I am NOT riding with him ever again .Bought 2 new cars from his dealerships in the past two years and get this treatment. Trust is very important when dealing with veghicles and that trust is lost forver. Now I am "all set," just elsewhere.
  16. Wow. I've heard of sunroof issues before but makes me glad I never open one. Never cared much for them and usually leave the cover closed. Had mine tinted with limo tint so I can leave the slider back. Opening it lets in dust, humidity and heat. My neighbor paid a guy he knows $350 to get his closed and fixed on a Huyundi (whatever) but the dealer wants into the thousands. I'm closed now and probably staying that way. Never liked holes in roofs much anyway.
  17. Some of us (that don't have FB) would appreciate not doing that.
  18. Of course the cheapest way is to put your headphones in and abandon the factory stereo. Terrible but I do despite an incredible sound system. I will admit that I care more about the music than the sound. Beside, factory nav is wicked annoying and the headphones eliminate that. If you are a audio type, find a local shop. For under a grand they'll hook you up. I guess because of headphones car stereo prices have plumentented. Bluetooth, wifi.. yeah they have it all but headphones are better for me because my music stays on in Home Depot, Target, Food Lion wherever.
  19. Melting dash? huh? I went to Hawaii and walked around and didn't see any melting action. I've seen shrinkage, fading, cracking and outright deterioration but never melting. I'd love to see a picture. Instagram me with one. vbdenny
  20. Just have to love plastic. I don't seem to remember all these broken handles back in the metal days. I've taken many a door panel off and found that taking them off is never the issue, nope, goes to putting it back together. Luckily, I do take some pictures or even video of stuff I take apart which sometimes helps. I also have my 6+ which I can text my tech guys with when it gets too deep. Aye?
  21. My guess is yes. My original factory fresh, never stepped on floor mats are in storage. WeatherTechs in the car all year. Not for sale though, I'll leave them for posterity.
  22. I've always found that getting money back is much more difficult that sending it away. Lesson learned OR a LOT of work. Totaled a year old Nissan once with the extended thing. Never saw a dime back, not even one with the Queen.
  23. Oh yeah, took my car over to a Toyota dealership (different owner) and had the service done there.
  24. Took my IS250 in to the dealership for it's first oil change last week. Waited an hour, drove home, checked oil and it was still dirty. I've never found Lexus dealerships to be anything but incompetent. They will never see me or my car again and I'll drive to Carolina to buy my next Lexus.
  25. While in upstate New York last week I see Sunoco sells 91 NON-alcohol Premium. Engines love it.
