  1. Hi ya Dave. I checked Page 178 of my 2020 RX OM. It states that if ur in park and don't tap the brake, the engine will shut off in one hour. Price a gas being what it was, I never tested the option. The 2022 ES300h system does the exact same thing. I still keep a Carbon Monoxide detector running in the BR.
  2. Thanks, Toyman! Lexus put your manual up for download so you can search by keywords in their PDF. You can save it on the cloud and use it for ref. Their search engine can search phrases also. https://www.lexus.com/drivers/resources?#personalized_settings Pull down the [Manuals and Guides] tab. and pick your vehicle. All your manuals can be downloaded and saved.
  3. My 14 Camry XLE seats "seemed" about the same as my 20 RX 350, but that's a bit subjective, so not meant to contradict your experience. Toyman, I have learned to drive with the Lane Assist function instead of Lane Departure Assist, at least in the 22 ES300h. It does only mild steering assistant to warn the driver of drift. If you ignore the tug, it will drift out of lane. IF you use your turn signal, it will not try to gently pull you back because it knows what your are trying to do. I don't remember using LA in my 20 RX, so I just can't say how it worked. Lane Departure Assist, LDA is used to allow the vehicle to steer the vehicle by itself, but NOT with your hands off the steering wheel for more than so many seconds, after which time it sends a warning to put your hands on the steering wheel. And if you ignore the warning, it beeps and disconnects the function. In other works, it kicks out the autopilot, and you better take action quickly. So why use LDA if LA is a more gentle guide and will not sound a warning and disconnect. Finally, LDA seems to have improved from 20 to 22 versions, but one might still get pulled over for suspicion of DUI if you don't keep your hands firmly on the steering wheel. So why use it? LA can make me a safer driver. So I leave it on now. Just took a little time to get used to.
  4. Hi ya, Dave n George: Tundra 4 x 4 Perfect. Low clearance ES200h not so much. With all the unusual sound proof paneling you have under the ES, you will wanna check with the dealer up there for advice. Salty slush and frozen slush are stuff you do not want banging around under there after slush freezes. If you are truly a two vehicle family and need both, you have to consider all the various driving conditions you will have to deal with. Snow tires would definitely be a must. I know all about that stuff, as I drove in it for 3 years and then discovered that I was 18 and was free to get out of Nebraska forever. I used to measure the snow depth. If it was deeper than the clearance on the ole Ford, I wouldn't go. Those who diid go had a heck of a time. Then there are drifts that fill in after the grader goes thru. The grill on your ES may be able to doze thru some of those drifts. I don't know. You'll also want to keep it out of ECO mode in sub freezing temp because the engine is not running longe enough to keep in the heat. Maybe the computer does that for you. We would really like to hear from you George after you get settled up there in Big Sky country.
  5. Thanks, George, you must do some serious driving out there. I just turned over 1,000 miles yesterday. No error codes or warning messages so far. How is the MPG holding up? I'm still hitting 44 MPG city. Well over double what the RX 350 was putting out. As winter comes to the Deep South, I expect to see that drop to the upper 30's per my experience with the Toyota Camry H.
  6. Three perfectly logical reasons for owning a sunroof: You could not find a luxury car that didn’t already have one. Your vehicle MFG needs to stay extremely profitable, or they would not be forcing customers (by default) to buy an overpriced Sun Roof (excuse me - A MOON Roof). Your Head needs to be toasty. This, based on the fact that even with the sun shade closed, radiation from the hot sun sill penetrates thru the slim shade and makes me fell hotter than I would feel otherwise. And then there is the frequent, nagging question after a pop up thunder shower: Did I remember to close that dad blasted sun roof after I got to work? I came out of the grocery store once after a sudden rain shower. Had the sun roof raised to cool the inside. Got in the RX 350 and started down a hill to a stop sign. Everything is cool, right? I applied the brakes, and BAM! Niagara Fall, baby. What a RUSH...
  7. I'm not surprised that the RX is not pinging, due the fact hat you have an infinite number of gears, based on the speed of the electric motor-generator between the wheels and the engine, with the computer controlling the load on the engine. My guess would be that Lexus wants to ensure that you aren't getting the vehicle into a set of parameters that will cause pinging. Say you have to commute thru the mountains, and you are climbing a steep grade and playing with the paddle shifters. Can you force the system into a gear ratio that will lug the engine, and therefore cause it to ping? It's possible! If the RX is running great on Regular, you, theoretically, are not pushing the envelop. And that's a good thing.
  8. ya, that's no fun. On the good side, It hasn't pulled any false braking acts. When backing out and a car is coming, you get the visual warning arrows first, showing up in the backup camera. If you don't take heed and stop moving, it'll give you a big kick with the brakes for sure. Pays to pay attention to the camera.
  9. That is nice to know! If you guys ever buy or rent a model RX or SE (2020 or later), the term Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) was discontinued in the Op Manual. ICS was changed to “intuitive parking assist function”. The icon is still under PKSA in the meter switches. But the icon is the [P)))] symbol which does the same thing.
  10. I'm sure that there is an Easter egg hidden in there somewhere that would fix that problem, but odds are, Lexus isn't going to admit that. I, personally, would not wanna disable that feature. I was backing out of a parking spot near the corner of a building in my 18 RX and looking at the backup camera, everything looked clear. And all of sudden, there's this Nasty jolt. A car came flying around the corner of the building. Cross track saw it coming (and locked the brakes), but I would not have seen it in time to hit the brakes manually.
  11. Exactly! One is a car and the other is a truck. The ES300 will never ride like a 65 Lincoln Continental, which I'm glad to say I took a ride in one but never owned one. After years of driving the RX and months in the ES300, driving the same routes, I can safely report that the Hybrid gets exactly double the MPG of the RX 350.
  12. I had the towing package on both the 18 and 20 RXs. I didn't want it and didn't use it, just had to pay for it to get an RX with certain other options. I didn't think I could find one without it. So, I hate to see you in that situation, Vince. Sounds like a BIG job.
  13. I know, Dave, I parked a gold Fiero on the street and a dodge rolled down a driveway unoccupied and crashed into the side. The body parts were plastic. The cost to buy and replace it was under 100 dollars, way back in the 80s. Fun car with the old GM Iron Maiden / 4-banger
  14. I'll ask the body shop when I go in for service. Under the hood closest to the grill, If I knock on it, it has the sound of plastic, not metal so I'm sure that part is not metal. One of my wife's X-boy friends had a Corvette. Wife always referred to it a a PLASTIC PIG, LMAO...
  15. The entire hood and every piece forward of the doors and windshield are all non-magnetic. Plastic? Composite carbon? Fiber Glass? The skirt that wraps around the rear end from rear wheel to wheel and the rear bumper are also non-metallic.
  16. What I'd do if the car still runs, and it probably does, is top it off with regular non-gas a hol (pure gasoline). You can find it around there, and go for a long long ride to burn it off the alcohol quick. Got any friends in Texas? You want to burn off the alcohol as fast as possible before it has a chance to do harm to the fuel system.
  17. I believe you need Lexus Enform which has the remote start option. If you got the 2021 from Lexus, they should have set that up for you on your phone. If you got it somewhere else, call a Lexus Dealer to get an appointment to help you set that up.
  18. Quote the manual: If the radio broadcast is interrupted by another audio output, such as an incoming phone call, the system will automatically cache the interrupted portion and perform time-shift play- back when the interruption ends. Try hitting the pause button during a song and see if that negative number pops up, meaning that you have so many seconds of stored music that you would have missed while pause was on. XM radio has for many years now, used a caching technique. That's just my guess. I'll try that tomorrow on my ES 300h. This function is available when “Auto Pause” is set to on.
  19. I would have got the NX hybrid if I could have found one. See when you can get in line for a 2023. The 2022 model is just about over. They build them in your back yard there.
  20. Unless he put it on a dynamometer, how would he know that the engine, while under load, and the transmission going thru the gears were operating as intended? Insist the Dealer go out on a test drive. Selling your vehicle when the warrantee runs out makes it worth less to the Dealer because he has to spend money to re-certify. I didn't pick up on any problems with my 2018 RX 350 except poor seat ventilation and they insisted it was working "to their liking"...
  21. The 23 RX 350h (by one account) will be AWD and e-CVT standard, and get 36 MPG on “Premium” gas, according to a posting by Kirk Kreifels. There is no way a Lexus dealer is going to give up a next-Gen RX 350h AWD next year for under 64K$ IMHO. Lets face it, Gavan, the RX 350 is a rolling Box Car( compared to low-drag Lexus sedans like the ES). My last 100 mile interstate trip, I got a surprising 31 MPG with the RX 350, but I got 50 MPG with the ES 300h (same route / same traffic). But I don’t drive 75 MPH like some guys. That’s for those who like to wear their tires out quicker and spend more time at the gas pump. I hate hanging out at tire stores and gas stations.
  22. Then the NX 350h would be perfect, If you can find one. If I remember correctly, and you download the manual and look at the fuel requirements, it does not require premium fuel. It allows Regular 87/RON 91 min. But, Premium 91/RON 96 Recommended. See Page 718 in their OM. But with a 14.0:1 compression ratio, I would still go with mid test gas. Mid-test gas goes down south for about 40 cents USD more per gallon, Top Tier rated gas.
  23. More specifically, if you try to back out between two SUVs, and a vehicle is passing in either direction, the brakes lock up and you get a big jolt, followed by "What the hell was that?". Now daze, I try to find a set of empty space so that I can head in and proceed to the empty space in front of that so that when I come out of the store, I don't have to back out, just put it in D and leave.
  24. You're right Gavan - the low roof line of the ES series is the reason the RX and now NX lines are so popular. You would really like the RX 350 as it will definitely meet your needs. You can get a 2020 RX for under 50K and it still has years left on the full warrantee. I just saw one at Lexus of Birmingham, with 6K miles on it but its sold in two days. If a Lexus dealer has a Pre-owned RX for sale, you will find it using their search engines. You just have to get on and look at a bunch of dealers, once a day. Dave / RX400h gave me that hint months ago and that's how I was able to snag another hybrid coming off the assembly line in Georgetown, KY. I love the RX but my wife got a leg injury and needed a stool to get up into the RX.
  25. The ES 300h is more aerodynamic than an RX so that helps MPG. Because the ES is lighter than an RX, it still gallops slightly on bridges, but significantly less than the RX. Compared to the RX, the ES is super quiet at Interstate speeds. The ES has a 5 star frontal Driver and 4 star front passenger rating per the window sticker. The NX 350 window sticker claims that it has not yet been rated, although you can find sites on the internet that claim the NX has a top rating for crash safety. No clue on that one.
