  1. Hi Les, yeah, it sure seems like a big job. I just wonder how many RX's are typically scoped out with the package (only $269 additional in 2021). When you buy off the lot, ya gotta choose from what's there......
  2. Yeah, I tried that. Nobody wants to go on record, as it was a factory option, not a dealer option. They recommended I contact the service department, to see if they've ever done one. I'm still waiting for a call back......
  3. I own a 2021 RX350L AWD, having bought it off the lot. Lately, we've been thinking about towing a light RV, less than 3,500 pounds. The vehicle did not have the Tow Prep Package option installed. I gather that this package the following major components: Heavy-Duty Radiator Heavy-Duty Fan Assembly Engine Oil Cooler Transmission Oil Cooler Various related plenums, brackets, tubing, etc. Where can I find the appropriate part numbers for these, so I can order them (or aftermarket equivalents)?
  4. 1992 ES300 222,700 Miles I replace some A/C components about every four years, lately need to replace Valve Cover gaskets & Distributor O-Ring(s) (leaking), but no significant oil burning. Bought used in 1997, @54,000 miles. Just can't kill this car!
  5. Does anyone know the Pioneer model number of the '98 radio? (It's on a sticker on the back of the unit.) I'd like to get a service manual on it, because I might need to replace some of the cassette tape drive components. Thanks, Vince
  6. dcfish, I'm pretty handy with electronics (discrete electronics, anyway). Is there a way to realign the laser?
  7. I own a 1992 ES300, with the stock trunk-mounted Pioneer CD changer. The original changer is on the blink (wouldn't even load or unload the CD cartridge), so I bought a used (1994) unit from a junkyard. Well, it does load and unload the cartridge, and it appears that it even tries to load and play a CD, but it gives the dreaded "Err" message after about 15 seconds of trying. (No, I don't have the CD upside-down.) Before I send it back to the "yard" in exchange for another, is it possible that the CD changer has a security code inside which is preventing its operation? I don't think so; I believe that the radio control head is the brains of this outfit, but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something, however unlikely. Thanks, Vince
  8. Calrunnergirl, I have a 92 ES 300 which is exhibiting the same problems now. That was a "ribbon cable" you had to replace in the radio. It's attached to the volume control circuit board via a zero-insertion-force connector, and wave-soldered onto the radio front panel's circuit board. The volume contol is bolted to a bracket which screws onto this circuit board. Over time, the nut on this attaching bolt works itself loose, allowing the volume control assembly to turn with the knob, which eventually rips the ribbon cable off the radio front panel's circuit board. Fortunately, there are only five conductors in this ribbon cable, so I replaced it with small wires, which I soldered onto both circuit boards. Not a job for the faint of heart or the shaky of hands, but it works. What did you end up doing for the CD changer? I opened mine up, and saw all those darned springs and limit switches. It looks like the inside of a VCR. I'm a little gun-shy now, but maybe in a week or two I'll screw up the courage to start taking it apart. Did yours turn out to be the motor which moves the reading head back and forth, or was it something else?
