  1. Three screws on top and one large bolt for the bottom that pinches the strut into the axle carrier. There is also a brake line bolt. Question are they giving you the entire strut assembly with spring? If not you would have to compress the spring to remove the strut shock itself...
  2. I wish we could, I called Lexus of AMerica and they wouldnt even return my call for this exact question....
  3. Welcome aboard, I too own a 99, I like the car and intend on running it into the ground....Is yours AWD or FWD?
  4. The struts are around $100 apiece, the mounts which I suggest changing are around $40 to $55 apiece...(aftermarket) KYB shocks are the ones I used. So With these you are looking at around $600 to $650 for parts alone. The rest being labor, Probably a fair price......
  5. Not quite the same, but looks like an Oxygen sensor. Whatever you do, do not buy aftermarket sensor, everyone on two sites has not been successful with these (Bosch) Use original equipment OE Denso Air/fuel sensor. You will be dollars ahead, and not stuck with a sensor that you cannot return. There were post on this just with a week ago. Here is where that sensor is, it is between the firewall and engine: on the the backside of the engine:
  6. Yes the waterpump is only about $100 and the labor to do it should be less than 1 hr since they are in there anyway to do the timing belt. My toyota dealer did all of those for $500.....That included timing belt and water pump and coolant....
  7. read this posting http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx300-foru...eal-on-new.html Or you can get this part here: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...playCatalogid=0
  8. i would only replace the Bank 1 sensor 1 which is the one between the firewall and engine. Here is the air/fuel sensor in question:
  9. There has been a lot of discussion about those o2 sensors. They are actually air/fuel sensors mounted on the exhaust manifolds, Bank 2 is the the front of the engine next to the radiator. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the exhaust manifold sensor between the engine and firewall. The O2 sensorz(Bank 1 sensor 2) is mounted just before the catalytic converter about even with the drivers seat under the car. Now the bad news, the Bosch sensors do not work well on our cars. You need to get original equipment Denso sensors. Sorry, but it has been tried before and the final fix is back to Denso original equipment sensors.
  10. trips1 The 2000 is the same engine as the 1999....1meze. It is an interference engine..... As for the timing belt, have it changed. The plugs will go an easy 125k....as a matter of fact one gentleman has 175k and still going. The Iridium original equipment plugs are incredible. You could get your belt and waterpump changed by Toyota for around $500.. I did and am very satisfied with their work. They even used a Lexus belt (quite frankly that is a farce as it is just a toyota belt) I am dead sure on the engine as I have been helping a neigbor by rebuilding his which is a 2003....
  11. Did you clean the used sensor? Also you need to clear the codes. And did you check the hoses under the air filter box to make sure they arent unhooked.??/ First, I would try cleaning the mass air flow sensor with crc maf sensor cleaner (auto parts stores have it) Use this procedure.. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...id=152&c=11 Unhook the battery for 10 minutes and hook back up and try running the car. this will clear the codes and start fresh...If it doesnt work than read the codes and report back.
  12. Oh, so I dont have to do any more in the next 500k....just kidding, I think 100k is perfect......
  13. x2 on do not tow flat. My manual (99) gives no alternatitive for towing flat, except in an emergency, and than they state damage can result.... You either have to put it on a flat bed or not tow at all. If it is AWD than even the front trolley is not an option.
  14. Yes, that is the one, However he used to advertize on ebay....same guy though....
  15. did you go here, it is for a 2003, but basically the same car... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=52026
  16. i replaced the water pump at 100k, it is driven by the timing belt....If you have been taking care of the coolent (replacing every 4 years) I see no reason the pump might not make 200k...However I am from the old school, I would hate to have the pump fail at 160k and wipe out my timing belt before its time....
  17. Get their license plate number and take them to small claims court....
  18. Go here and select repair manual, then select body electrical and then on page B160 starts the section on seat heater: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=52026
  19. The heater itself is around $323, but I would check the leads with an Ohmeter to see if it is open....Very expensive little part....You might be able to get the whole seat with heater cheaper at a junk yard. did you check for fuses...??
  20. :cries: However Billyshaft, Who cares, they dont deserve our money after the purchase. Warranty work until the mileage is done, and than adios.....
  21. Just remember one thing you will no be considered a preferred customer if you have service performed outside of the Lexus dealership so if there are any non warranty issues after the mileage or time expires, believe me they will write you off and you will pay. That is a hard, cold fact. Just because you bought the car from them, in their eyes you are not loyal unless they soak you for all the service...
  22. Two things, maybe the Oil control valve for the camshaft timing is bad....see item 19 in this drawing http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...playCatalogid=0 Second thought, you saw no sludge, I still wonder if the camshaft timing control valve is stuck, maybe from contamination. You could take it out and try to clean it and then put it back in....
  23. I would pull the front valve cover and see if your engine has sludge....The variable valve timing may be off do to poor oil flow.
  24. there is a vent pipe for the tranny, but is it possible they overfilled the transmission????
  25. The new deal didnt bring us out of the depression, it failed and the only thing that brought us out was the huge manufacturing increase when World War II started. Unfortunately we sent most of our manufacturing overseas. We are in a real bad way. This stimulus may just put a blip back in the economy, but I feel after a year, we will go into a deeper depression. Government cannot sustain a recovery without business getting incentives to grow. Now every state is doing just the oposite by increasing taxes, that is the death to the common tax payer and business alike. In California when they do that business leaves. I swear the idiots at the top dont have a clue. Americans need to contact their representatives on both sides of the isle and have this stimulus ammended to correct their mistakes.
