ralphnewman Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 My 94 LS climate control is acting up. The "heat" is always at max until I go all the way to max cold. The fan speed does change as I raise a lower the desired temperature. The heater valve is operating so the servo motor should be ok. I am quessing the blend door has gotten stuck or unattached to the servo motor. How do I access it? Do I go in from the engine compartment or under the dash? Never done this before so your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Never done this before so your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks I beleive you access the servo through the glovebox, You have to take out the glovebox liner and you should be able to see it.
wwest Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) Is the water valve moving incrementally as you adjust the temperature or in "bang-bang" servo fashion, going directly from fully open to fully closed only when you get to max cooling? If the latter then the IAT, cabin interior air temperature sensor just above the drivers right knee is open. You will also see some of this effect if the OAT, outside air temperature sensor is open. Open IAT will indicate that the cabin is extremely COLD and open OAT will indicate the outside temperate is extremely LOW, below freezing. OAT is mounted on the back of the front bumper re-enforcement just in front of the center of the radiator/condensor assembly. If, as your temperature selection passes through the actual cabin temperature, the water valve moves incrementally then yes, the blend door is no longer connected to the servomotor and you have a rather difficult problem. It is not easy to access the blend door. Edited January 2, 2006 by wwest

It was a detached blend door and it is very tricky to fix. To access it remove the panel below the glove box. With a small mirror you can watch the actuator move when you change the heat setting. Set the heat at about 75 degrees and you can grab the blend door arm with one finger, hold it in place with some up pressure. Decrease the temperature and the actuator paul will move into place should reseat. By the way, it took many many tries. Thanks again

On the other hand, it's probably better than replacing a power steering pump..... Thanks for the heads-up. I've got some issues with my heating system that I need to dig into, but it's nothing serious, so I'm not going to jump into it right away.
