driver side mirror problem

The auto open and close feature of the driver side mirror no longer works. It is stuck in the open position.  It also continues to make a high pitched noise like it is trying to engage the cams but cannot. I was told I would have to get a replacement mirror and have it painted to match the green paint. Can this be fixed?

Hi Donald...welcome to the Forum

I would certainly attempt to fix it because if you've got to remove it to fit another one and strip it back to find out what is wrong...if you break it in the process there is nothing lost then

I would expect a problem with the mirror motor. You can find it here for you car (link) and then search for a replacement by the part number. Another common guess (a prob with wires) seems to be excluded -- as you say the mirror is making the noise, trying to unfold it (if I understood you correctly), then the wires must be good.
