maxnharry Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Long time lurker. Am the proud owner of a 96 lx-450 and have been having trouble with my security system. So much trouble that I left it off the other night and then discovered someone trying to steal the car early in the morning on my way to work, but that's a whole nother story. My problem is that when the alarm is set using the key fob, it will set itself off within a few moments of being set and without any intrusion of any type. I am hoping that it is a sensitivity adjustment but am worried that I have to replace the alarm module. Anyone have any similar experience? Any ideas on what a replacement module will cost? Any suggestions on an aftermarket replacement?
Badams Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I would recommend buying "The Club" to secure your vehicle until you get the alarm fixed.
fsuphi1459 Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I have a 97 LX450 and I also have problems with the alarm. Nothing like what you are having, but I still don't like the system. I'm not sure if you can adjust the sensitivity on the factory alarm. Before you get a new module, I would research a after market DEI alarm system. They are the larget automotive security system maker and known as the best. They will offer much more than your stock system. I'm having one installed in my LX at the end of next week that will even put the windows up and down. I'm paying $400 for the whole system installed. I have used the same system on my old 1996 Cruiser and loved it. Plus, you get 1/4 miles range with the remote vs. my 10 feet now. Let me know if you have any questions about it. Hope this helps. Steve
jsmith8918 Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 10 feet to get your remote to work? That sounds about right for mine, too, even with a new battery! Is this typical for the rest of the LX450 owners?
Thi Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 With my 97 LX 450, I need to get pretty close to the car (10 feet or closer) in order for the remote to work. Thi
fsuphi1459 Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Unless you are right infront of behind the car, it has to be less that 10 feet. I thought it was just my car, but maybe not. My new system is being installed Monday. Can't wait. Steve
nelson Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 I also need to be within 10 feet for the factory remote to work. Some of these aftermarket systems have incredible range on the remote lock/unlock and remote start!
Nunya Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 Not only within 10 feet but on the driver's side only.
molocka12 Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I have had a new alarm & remote starter installed in my 97 LX at a cost of about $420 including NY tax. I can remote start my LX from a 100 yards I know this because I park my truck at work off in a secluded spot about 100 yards from the door.
