 I have a 1993 SC300, 5 speed. I bought it with 86,000 miles and now have 111,000. It's been a dream until just recently. It starts fine when cold, but when I make a short trip (to the store, etc.) I have real problems. The car starts with no problem, but then it acts as if it's out of gas, and dies. I have to rev it up VERY high to get out of the parking lot. Once i'm started, it's fine. It never happens when the car is cold, or has sat for a period of time. I just had a tune up, new plugs, new fuel filter, new air filter.... still have the problem. Someone please help....

Rest your heart. You are possibly getting too much fuel at the point that trouble occurs. It could be a bad sensor reading but similar issues have been found with the fuel pump computer or ecu. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. :D

Hi, I hope you are fine again with your beautiful car. As I have exactly the same problem with my car, can you help me giving me some explanation on what you found out.

Thank you very much for reply to

it is definatly a sensor

as when the engine is cold it does not use most sensors until warm and runs inan open loop until operating temperature

it needs a scan tool hooked up to watch the sensor readings

Another point of concern may be vandalism..I work in a Porsche garage and had a customer come in with similar problems, we replaced everything we could think of; injectors, computer, gas tank, etc., when we replaced the gas tank out of frustration we found that a very large piece of saran wrap was inside. When the car was started the wrap was at the bottom, but while fuel was being used the wrap eventually clogged the hole, causing the "no fuel" problem. If you havent already fixed the problem, just run a coat hanger down the whole to make sure nothing is in there. Only takes about 10 min. Hope I could help.

Exact same problem with mine. I know this is an old thread, but for all of you who are also experiencing problems like these.... It ended up being the fuel pump computer. Which I'm told is going to cost me $800 to get it replaced. But for months it would die any time I idled, so I would have to drive as if playing Pac-Man, no stopping. In order to make a left turn, I would have to make 3 rights, etc...I took it to the shop a few months back and they said nothing was wrong. And amazingly enough, it worked like a charm for a few weeks after that, no problems at all. Then it started to die on me again. Thing is it always started right up, sometimes it would take 10-15 minutes, but it always started. Then finally it had enough and pooped out on me. It would turn over and I could gun it in hopes of it "catching" but it just fizzled out every time no matter how much gas I would give it, so I had to get it towed. And looking back over the last 2-3 years, I had taken it to the shop before for "surging" problems. I was always having something relating to fuel/oxygen ratio type problems now that I think about it. Anyway, good luck everyone.
