Hites Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 ...removed all of that insulation/padding on the underside of the hood? would the removal of all of that stuff reduce underhood temps slightly? is its only purpose for sound deadening?
Sadistic Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 They aren't only used for noise reduction. It's also used for heat dissipation to protect your paint and clear coat. If your hood is exposed to such extreme temperatures for such a long period of time, your paint can become extremely brittle, and large half dollar size chips will start appearing from rocks, instead of the smaller ones from impact. A cheap paint job will do the same thing.
southernsc300 Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 you can replace that stuff with better quality products as well. companies like Dynamat and Second Skin Audio make hood liners that are imo 100x better than the stock stuff used.
OneHotLexus Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 I thought that hood lining was also used for safety. Ya know I heard it acts kinda like a fire blanket, if your engine catches on fire it will drop and hopefully smother the fire out. Also, I'm a weight junky, how much weight would be saved if that lining was removed?
Lexual Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 It does act as a fire blanket as well in event of fire the plastic clips melt away dropping it onto the engine hopefully "smotthering" the fire
