Calif. Smog Test On 400H

I bought a new 2006 RX 400H and it is now 2014 and I still don't have a smog test required. Has anyone out their had to do a Ca. smog test on their hybrid including Prius.

Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:

  Hybrid
• 
  Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older
• 
  Diesel powered 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs
• 
  Electric
• 
  Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs.
• 
  Motorcycle
• 
  Trailer

I heard that smog testing may be forthcoming for hybrids. So far, we are exempt.

I too heard its coming, Air Resources !Removed!'s will make sure of that.

I wonder if smog testing hybrids with current process and methodology will be useful, I assume most hybrids run in full electric mode during the short cycle on rollers. Maybe that's why no smog test is currently required.

Knowing CARB, I wouldn't be surprised if they raise the two test speeds from 15 and 25 MPH to 35 and 45 MPH. Hey, they have to make money in some way or another!

Possibly being considered. Wow, but I want to leave the building if they spin those rollers that fast! Might need equipment upgrades.
