tracey nelson Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 Has anyone had a leak in their power steering pump? The pump seems good but it's leaking and all the lines seem fine but it must be leaking around the pully, bolts on or the big bottom line. Any ideas? What needs to come off to get this thing off?
joedoc Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 this is a common problem. don't let it go too long as it leaks on the alternator and can fry it. I had to replace both the PS pump and the alt.
tracey nelson Posted March 3, 2004 Author Posted March 3, 2004 Did you do the PS yourself? I could only find one bolt on the inside.
joedoc Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 I had the dealer do it. Not cheap. If you are so inclined, look around this forum--there is probably info on how to change it yourself.
slidermike Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 Go to the faq @ the top and look for a link to another users site that has the info. Here it is. http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html#041 Its a good site too.
jzz30 Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 i think its held on by three bolts and a nut. it should be fairly simple and stright forward to replace
tracey nelson Posted March 14, 2004 Author Posted March 14, 2004 Thank you for all your help on this. The pump was not that bad to take off and rebuilt. The barring and kit (toyota, cheaper) total cost about $40.00.
rich21 Posted March 16, 2004 Posted March 16, 2004 your gonna have to go from underneath to take the pump out. first take out the alt and then the pump. you can see from there what you have to do to take the pump out.
