Hid Ballast Replacement

Did not see how to search the forum. This subject has probably been discussed previously.

I need to replace the Ballast for the HID head lights on a 98 Lexus GS400. I see many, many ballasts on the web.

Two things:

1) recommendation for source of replacement Ballast

2) step by step how to install replacement Ballast

I have been quoted $2000 (yes 2 thousand dollars) to replace the ballast. Since the ballast from Lexus is $199.99 I find this hard to swallow.

Need to get this taken care of as soon as possible.

i'd try ebay. The factory ballast is made by Denso.

As for replacing it, you'll need to take a peak behind the headlight and trace the bulb to see where the ballast is. Most likely the bumper will have to come off, etc...

$2k is crazy talk. just buy a ballast from the link that cduluk posted and then simply trace the wires back. shouldnt be hard at all!

The bumper has to come off. The ballast to the headlight is on the bottom supported by 4 screws. Or go to eBay & get the whole headlight assembly for less then $300.
