Gas Mixture Error Code 25 26, Ls400

I have a 92 LS400. Suddenly I have a loss of power, rought low idle, sluggish and misfiring. smell some gas, gas pedal to floor and no immediate reaction. I checked the error codes and got Error codes 25 and 26 which are gas/air mixture being too lean or too rich. I cannot figure it out what to do next. I seached the forum, and saw some posts on the coils but do not know where they are located, also something about a possible short in the trunck hinge - any help, where should I look? What should I check? What would you do? What is the most common cause? thanks

Well it could be many things. Has anything unusual happened recently just before it became a problem? Did you power wash engine area or drive through a puddle or was there heavy rain? That could point to moisture in some electrical connections which might be impacting the ignition system. Maybe plug wire are very wet or distributor cap and rotor has moisture.

Rough idle can be a dirty throttle body which doesn't close properly. Removing it and cleaning it up with a solvent can fix that.

It the car won't run at higher speeds or accelerates poorly then it could be fuel pump or fuel filter starving the engine for fuel (too lean).

Did you just fill up with gas? Could you have gotten a bad tank of gas? Or did your recently run out of gas causing water in the tank (which would otherwise float on top of gas) to get into fuel system and ejectors?

It rained the days prior, but I have never had this problem before in the rain. I filled up my tank with fresh gas today to check, no change. Burning gas like crazy, half MPG, still little acceleration, slug up hills now versus massive power before when put on gas. I did replace my starter motor a year ago, cleaned throttle body well, but used old fuel injector wiring and had to tie together connections with wire for broken clips. Would one lose fuel injector wire cause this problem, or could it be a bad sensor? Pain to check injector wiring since have to take off intake manifold to get to passager side. What about the bad coils I have seen on other posts? It is odd, seems if a failure of some things my car would not run at all versus run like a slug, no back firing. Where is the fuel filter to check? Link to diagram? I could do a quick test and reverse it to clean/blow it out, but again unlikely since happened sudddenly.

Wow, This is crazzy because I have the same issue with my 94 lexus ls 400 , The mechanic told me that it could be the timming belt skipping, but I dont think so. if you have any luck please let me know thanks

  • 1 year later...

My car is throwing code 25 air fuel lean. Last time this happened I replaced the o2 sensors and it fixed the problem. Upon getting my car back it ran ok but now it's throwing this code and I'm wondering if the o2 sensors are fouled out from running so rich? This won't affect the timing will it?I just got the timing belt water pump and all that good stuff change and id hate to have to do it again. Thanks in advance joel
