What Does "shift Lock Overdrive" Do?

I just noticed this button in front of my gearshift..no idea what it does?

shift lock or overdrive

overdrive is a gear

shift lock is something you press in to release the shifter when the car battery is dead

yes for example when your battery is dead and you cant get the car to let you move the shifter, you just take a screw driver, pop open the little door for this device, and presto...you can now move your gear to say neutral to move the car of serve what ever purpose you need to do

Or, if the brake light switch at the brake pedal fails, the shift lock override button allows shifting out of park so the car can be driven.
