Ok, I already have a cream puff 98 LS which I absolutely love. After owning the Lexus, I just cant bring myself to

buy anything but a Lexus.

Now I am looking for another used LS400 and hoping to get something for around $6k. I recently looked at a 91 with 118k miles

for $4500 but decided to pass(too rusty). For $6k, I am limited to the early years and thats OK. I just cant stand rust.

So, any advice on where to get a nice, well-maintained, rust-free LS in this price range? or impossible?

And for early years, which one is the best?

Ebay is interesting but I will not buy a car sight unseen (pictures dont work...too easily to hide defects).

I don't want to offend anyone but I would avoid LS400s before the 1995 model year if only to avoid the pathetic headlights on the 90-94. You should be able to find a decent 95 LS near or below your $6,000 target. The 95-97 LS400 is so much nicer and roomier than the 90-94.

OK, if I really, really had to go earlier than 1995, I would stay with a 1993 or 1994 -- vast improvements over the 90-92 LS including decent size tires that allow the car to actually stop within a safe distance.

I see nice, older LS400s every day around the Kansas City metro. I can hardly drive the two miles to the grocery store here in Lenexa, Kansas without seeing at least one.

Maybe you can have someone in your area help you look. In 2003, after driving my 1990 LS400 for 13 1/2 years, I asked my repair shop owner on a Friday afternoon to help me find a 2000 LS400. I gave him very specific specifications including color. He located a car even better than what I wanted within three hours. I bought it on the spot and sold my 90 LS a few weeks later to a friend. Maybe I was lucky.

u can do mods on a gen 1, i have hids, h and r lowering springs, cross drilled rotors (about to get supra upgrade), billit grille, new interior, new rims and tires...i dont think the gen 2's are quite as good looking but the advancements in technology thats incorporated into the car are way better....meaning the interiors are nicer

I have found my 93 LS with 179k on craigslist for $4k. It's absolutly rust free. I have baught/sold 5 cars on there last summer and have had no problems finding what i want. best of luck to you.

I agree with 1990Ls. You should try to go for 95-97 if possible, as the are much more amazing. However I have never had any problems with my 93 and I love it to death. The braking has always been fine and I think you should'nt have any problems finding a good 93 or 94 for under $6k.

P.S. 1990LS400, do you go to the Hen-House on 135th and Black bob (I love that place).
